Winners break new ground
By John Breeden II, GCN Staff
Innovation and a focus on government users ruled the day during judging for this years Best New Technology Awards at FOSE. The field was loaded with products that not only qualified as good technologies, but were genuinely new.

All the entries I examined were highly innovative and useful for federal IT workers, said GCN Lab reviewer Carlos A. Soto. It wasnt easy choosing the finalists, let alone the overall winners.

Companies with new products being exhibited at the Washington trade show, released after November 2003, were eligible to vie for the awards. Each product was judged on innovation, specifications, usability and value.

Sixteen judges from Government Computer News and Washington Technology picked the best entries from a field of more than 100 in a double-blind judging competition. The first round included editors who are experts in their fields scoring each entry. In the second round, all judges conferred on naming the winners.

In addition to 11 category awardsthere are 10 overall categories, with a hardware and software winner in Security Productsthe judges named the overall Best in Show. This year, two Special Judges Awards also were given to products that were deemed highly innovative and targeted towards the government but that did not quite fit into any of the 10 established categories.

Winners will receive with their awards at a ceremony at
11 a.m. Tuesday at FOSE Booth 2950.
