The skimmed-off look enhances sporty Italian styling features
The Tonale 2026 features a more chiseled front face, and the bumper now sports an extensive redesign, the large intake pointing upwards, finished with trim at both ends and painted black. The grille sports an overhaul with fresh horizontal strake styling and small air intakes set on either side of the distinctive Alfa triangular motif.
Alfa Romeo has improved the dynamics of the sport utility vehicle with widened front and rear tracks and shorter front and rear overhangs, creating an aggressive stance characteristic of high-performance vehicles. The most drastic change occurring for the 2026 models is the discontinuation of the plug-in hybrid variant, which paired the turbocharged 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor. This move is reflective of Alfa Romeo’s new emphasis on ‘traditional’ sports cars, as opposed to trying to tap into the electric mass-market trend.
The other turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder delivers 268 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, and this is mated to only the nine-speed automatic and the Q4 all-wheel-drive system as standard. The engineers have worked on improving the response and shifts for improved acceleration, and there are also small improvements in the suspension setup, along with the widened track.
Improved interior cabin materials add to the luxury experience
The Tonale 2026 features red leather trim, with red stitching and eight-way electrically adjustable front seats, heated and ventilated, and featuring four-way electric lumbar support. There are also additions of various new materials and hues inside, giving the cabin a more premium feel, commensurate with the aggressive external styling and high positioning of this SUV in the compact luxury segment.
Sport Speciale trim tops pared-down range
The Alfa Romeo line-up has been trimmed down to only three trim models, namely Sprint, Veloce, and the latest flagship Sports Speciale. The Sports Speciale sports side skirts and rear bumper trim finished with silver inserts, gloss-black Brembo brake calipers, and sport-exclusive 20-inch three-hole wheels, which pay homage to Alfa’s iconic “telephone dial” rims now enabled for high-performance features.
The inside of the Sport Speciale features Alcantara sport seats with white contrast stitching and trim inserts, and the instrument panel is finished with an Alcantara wrap. The sport trim is topped by adaptive dampers and is distinguished by a contrasting black roof, making it the most distinctive Tonale available to North American buyers.
