The overflow of Cyclones Senyar and Ditwah, multifaceted storms with rare nature and phenomena, triggered significant landslides and floods affecting some of the South and Southeast Asian countries. Since the onset of the disaster, the overflow of the multifaceted storms shifted the disaster to the deadliest nature from weather, with thousands gone and millions from other countries affected.

There was a warning gap as storms moved over Thailand and Sri Lanka

As Al Jazeera reports, approximately 1,255 people died due to the storms being monsoon systems in cohesive floods of rains and storms, and the other three countries affected were Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Indonesia. The storms had their overflow leveled to the multisystem of monsoons. The other states were affected by the unidentifiable nature of the storms from a distance.

A tropical cyclone crossed the Malacca Strait after being one of the rare tropical cyclones. The tropical storms caused the loss of villages and destruction of lives. The last to be hit were not specified.

A rare cluster of climate-fueled storms

According to the UN, the storms are part of a particular

โ€œsurge of climate-fueled storms and monsoonal rainsโ€

that have affected the area since the middle of November. The conjunction of two cyclones along with climatically normal monsoon systems produced overlapping precipitation events that strained already overloaded drainage systems, river basins, and flood-prone hillside communities.

In Sri Lanka, Cyclone Ditwah produced significant landslides that isolated many towns and villages, and damaged critical infrastructure. In the town of Uthuwankanda, emergency rescue teams reported difficulty in reaching collapsed homes and shops due to debris, which hindered their ability to reach isolated communities without assistance.

Indonesia, along with the rest of the region, suffered from widespread flooding and landslides. In West Sumatra, for example, Al Jazeera reported that tree trunks and mud debris, after a few days of relentless rain, were swept from the land to the shore and into populated residential areas. Along with West Sumatra, Thailand and Malaysia suffered from flooding, with rivers running high, and many homes and places were abandoned, leaving tens of thousands displaced.

According to climate experts, the storms show a trend that is especially concerning, as extreme rainfall events become more common and more severe as temperatures rise. The UN states that these storms and their impacts were “supercharged” by the climate events, which are increasing, and more destructive storms.

The extent of the humanitarian impact has been devastating

Over 10 million people have been displaced, and countless others have been compelled to occupy emergency shelters. Dwelling units have been destroyed or rendered unsafe. Many have been impacted by the power outages, broken water systems, insufficient and broken medical systems, and food supplies.

In Sri Lanka, emergency responders have been unable to access some highland remote communities, as landslides have caused blockages of access roads. Rescue teams in Indonesia have been searching for survivors in areas where entire communities have been devastated by water and lost to the control of the sea.

UN reports indicate that the number of shelters and displaced people affected by global storms is in the range of “millions” and is an inestimable number. It is the level of overshadowed sea storms and the destruction of shelters in storms that is likely to erode recovery for many decades.

An international scope of the impact

In all of Southeast Asia, the governments activated their military, and their military emergency and humanitarian units to assist with the emergency and relief operations. The world organizations, including the United Nations, are working with countries to provide assistance, restoration, and the use of fundamental services, and to provide trials for the services for the new future phases.

In Southeast Asia, there is a new pattern of climate that new powerful cyclones will result from the warming of the oceans. The region will be volatile, this is to say, the storms and cyclones that are now extreme will also be climate-driven.
