Monroe County Executive Adam Bello launched MonroeAlert, an innovative safety initiative, to inform citizens in real-time about any emergency. MonroeAlert, launched on November 17, 2025, uses Everbridge to provide instant alerts to all its citizens via different communication methods such as text, email, phone calls, and applications. With such an initiative, safety information will reach all Monroe County citizens during their time of need in any emergency.

Advanced notification system replaces outdated emergency communication methods

MonroeAlert is a milestone technology compared to its predecessor, HyperReach, in that MonroeAlert is faster and smarter to meet modern communication needs. MonroeAlert is crucial in ensuring that the community is safe, according to Monroe County Executive Bello, because it means keeping citizens educated to disseminate vital information required for survival through MonroeAlert’s powerful capacity.

It also offers immediate notifications for critical events such as weather effects, safety issues, travel restrictions, and shelter locations, all based on each resident’s immediate geographic location. It means that each resident gets alerts concerning their location rather than alerts for the entire county, which might not relate to their particular situation.

Key system capabilities include:

  1. Real-time emergency notifications through text, email, phone, and mobile app
  2. Notifications for location-specific issues, aiming to inform about their immediate surroundings
  3. Multilingual support, including American Sign Language video alerts
  4. Features for residents with functional needs:
  5. Integration with 911 Center and County Public Safety Functions

Multilingual support means there is no language barrier in accessing healthcare

MonroeAlert puts forward inclusivity with features such as notifications in several languages, including video alerts that are compatible with American Sign Language, reaching all members irrespective of language constraints or disabilities to hear sounds. According to Monroe’s mayor, Mayor Malik Evans, every individual in their community needs to have life-saving information in a manner most convenient to them, thereby preventing confusion during life-saving moments.

Citizens can register their needs for accessing and functionality, such as dependence on power for life support systems, registered, which enables those requiring urgent assistance in emergencies to be prioritized. By taking such initiative, first responders are able to cover the entire community in their communication initiatives.

Disaster response professionals have improved communication systems

Sheriff Todd Baxter pointed out that community communication is one of the most powerful ways to maintain safety in any community, which MonroeAlert improves in being able to inform citizens in real-time about any emergency, road closures, weather, or other kinds of major safety information in ways that remove confusion from communications.

Application process facilitates active community involvement

Citizens can sign up for MonroeAlert on its website, monroecounty.gov/monroealert, or on its Everbridge app, which can be downloaded on a smartphone by conducting a search for “MonroeAlert.” Each resident gets alerts concerning their location rather than alerts for the entire county. Legislature President Yversha Román assured, in reference to emergencies, “Information is essential in itself, to make sure our citizens aren’t left to hunt for answers.”

“This launch marks not only a new dimension in tech-based partnerships for Monroe County, but it also reflects coordination between Monroe County, Rochester Mayor Malik Evans, Sheriff Todd Baxter, Monroe County Public Safety, and emergency responders to utilize technology for the benefit of Monroe County’s residents for enhanced safety,” said GovernmentBubbles CEO Samantha Calvert.

MonroeAlert is an entirely new paradigm for emergency communication in Monroe County, excluding outdated methods in favor of new technology emphasizing ease of use and timely information dissemination. The full-pledged communication platform will enable all members of any given community, irrespective of their language, to disseminate vital safety information via their chosen communication method. It is highly encouraged to sign up for MonroeAlert to be optimally prepared for emergency events.
