Pebble has launched the Index 01, the first smart ring whose sole purpose is not fitness tracking, but rather audio note-taking. The newly rebranded Pebble Core Devices LLC first introduced the product in December 2025. This device is ideal for those whose thoughts are lost amidst the distractions of everyday life. At just $75 for pre-orders, it has the lowest price of any competitor, and it also features a 2-year battery life and seamless iPhone/Android compatibility.
The Index 01 is disrupting complexity and bringing a whole new definition to simplicity
The Index 01 has removed all of the complexity that comes with technology. Instead of buttons and screens, the Pebble smart ring has a sleek stainless-steel band with a single silicone button that, when pressed and held, will record a voice note for 15 seconds, which will sync immediately with the Pebble App on the user’s phone. These voice notes can be used for capturing ideas, memos, or reminders without the distractions of exercising, tracking health, or otherwise not being focused. There are rings in black, gold, or silver, with sizes ranging from 6 to 13, and the company is providing free size kits or 3D-printable mockups to customers for better fitting.
The whole system is designed to protect the user’s privacy as much as possible. Unlike similar devices and voice recorders, the ring will not be listening and recording unless activated. This also means that there will be no cloud storage to keep or save recordings and no data is being collected by Pebble. Speaking on the go is made easy with open-source speech-to-text models and lightweight large models (LLMs), as voice memos, to-dos, and calendar notes are made within seconds.
Sparking a new era in battery design and battery life throughout the industry
As other interfaces, such as the Oura ring and Samsung Galaxy Ring, require constant recharging. Instead, Pebble has focused on making the interface lightweight and easy to use with a non-rechargeable, silver-oxide battery that provides 2 years of 3-5 second recordings, and a total of 12-15 hours of recordings. It is sleek, at a total thickness of 2.5mm, and a weight of 3-5 grams.
Home Assistant works with your smart devices
Assistance with voice, as well as seamless mobility, allows users to take audio notes, reminders, and other commands. Audio to voice commands can be funneled through Home Assistant to take control of smart home devices. โTimer set for five minutes,โ are the notifications that show on your phone when it confirms a task it is supposed to do.
There is a premium plan for the cloud that provides multiple device backup, advanced transcription, and the ability to sync your devices. However, the primary functionalities do not require a subscription and are offline usable. Pebble wants to encourage phone-less journaling, memory dumping, grocery shopping, and brainstorming in meetings with their product that is meant to function as a memory aid.
The whole system is hackable and developer-friendly, making the system completely customizable
Index 01 somehow retains the charm of Pebble’s open-source software. You can already customize the app to do things like skip tracks, take photos on double tap, or send audio to a third-party bot, and it can be paired with the vintage Pebble watches. The forums are already full of suggestions for productivity hacks, and complimenting the watch in the forum is something some users take as a badge of honor.
Pebbleโs success can be attributed to bringing the original Pebble to Fitbit for $40,000,000, igniting a new market focused on specialized wearables. The early reviews show an excitement because of its minimalistic approach to wearables. The only downside, the battery life of the watch, is directly tied to the amount of time you can record with it.
With the improvements in AI technology and voice tech, Pebble today is seen as an innovator finding harmony and balance between minimalism and smart technology. Pebble’s Index 01 is a game changer for all health enthusiasts and is serious competitor in the market.
