On QatarEnergy’s official announcement dated December 31, 2025, concerning Qatar’s petrol prices for January 2026, it was stated that prices for both premium grade petrol and super petrol have decreased since December 2025. Currently, the prices for premium grade petrol are set at QR 1.95 per liter. For Super, the prices are set at QR 2 per liter. And as for Diesel, it will also be sold at QR 2 per liter during the month of January 2026.

Analysts believe that the impact of the change in fuel prices is widespread

The new domestic fuel prices are:

  • 1.95 QR (Premium petrol)
  • 2.00 QR (Super petrol)
  • 2.00 QR (Diesel)

For the first time, some consumers will purchase premium petrol at a lower price than they would super petrol when purchasing fuel in January. In addition, the price of diesel will be equal to the price of super petrol for the first time. Therefore, consumer behavior will definitely be affected, and many consumers will switch to premium petrol due to the price differential. In addition, the equivalent fuel pricing provides increased value for the consumption of fuel for transportation and logistics purposes.

Since households and businesses in Qatar closely follow the price of fuel, since it affects the amount of money spent on travel, commute, delivery, and other expenses in the country, the recent changes to fuel prices should alleviate the economic burden placed on families with long commutes.

In addition, the changes to the price of diesel will positively affect businesses engaged in logistics, construction, and public transportation. These changes will enable them to lower their operating costs, possibly resulting in a lower cost to consumers for goods and services, and thereby, lower the rate of inflation.

Analysts believe that the impact of the change in fuel prices is widespread, affecting areas such as food transportation/distribution and tourism, and will affect a variety of types of service providers.

QatarEnergy mentioned wanting to match fuel prices domestically and internationally.

QatarEnergy explained that if there are any updates to fuel pricing, they will be sure to follow their procedures. Their procedure will ensure that any updates will be reasonable, provide good value, and be sustainable for the community. Additionally, they want to match fuel prices with their European consumers. It is clear that, given the large fuel and gas reserves Qatar has, Qatar citizens will gain the most from the price drop.

QatarEnergy is in the final stages of offering fuel prices that will lower costs for consumers. There is a trail of clues indicating that fuel prices in Europe impact Qatar. Thus, they plan to offer pricing that confirms their fuel market credibility.

This is an act that will provide Qatar citizens with financial support.

Qatar’s ability to provide for its citizens during economically trying times is shown in how they will be lowering gas prices in January 2026. By having the diesel and super petrol prices be the same, it means that customers now have the opportunity to make decisions about the products they purchase. The small reduction in premium petrol prices may encourage more people to buy the premium product instead of the cheaper product.

QatarEnergy appears prepared to conduct ongoing assessments regarding the price of oil globally and the consumption of fuel throughout the economy. Analysts believe that the price reductions that occurred in January 2026 were indicative of Qatar attempting to provide additional stability in regards to oil pricing.

As a key component of domestic policy, Qatar will continue to reinforce the role of fuel pricing, enabling further international relations and integration. The January 2026 announcement recognizes that fuel pricing is a contributing factor to Qatar’s domestic support of both households and businesses.

Using QatarEnergy’s domestic pricing of fuel with the above stated fuel prices, January 2026 marks the first real pricing relief experienced by both consumers and businesses in Qatar, allowing Qatar to further establish itself as a stabilizing energy provider.
