Smart Automobile is one of the most intriguing upcoming companies in the automotive space, which has managed to capture the attention of many people. Since its inception, all its releases have been met with great reception, leading the company to carve a unique lane for itself. Ultimately, the past cars have led up to Smart unveiling the #6 plug-in hybrid sedan in early December 2025, giving people a great option to purchase as a Christmas gift.

Reviewing the upcoming manufacturing company named Smart

The automotive industry heavily relies on name value and notoriety, meaning customers are more likely to be drawn towards veteran companies that have existed in the space for a long time. Purchasing a car is a considerable expense for most people, so they’d rather go safe than sorry by buying a car from a famous corporation. As such, it is usually tricky for smaller companies to enter the industry and make an immediate impact without any background information about it.

Smart Automobile is a premium, all-electric corporation that is a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and Geely, which has a 50/50 ownership. It was officially established in 2019. It is exceptionally beneficial for Smart that it is associated with a renowned company like Mercedes-Benz, which has solidified its reputation as reliable and has automatically co-signed Smart. A lot of the initial plans that Smart had were hampered by the fact that it was established around the infamous Covid-19 pandemic, preventing it from effectively announcing itself onto the scene.

The #6 plug-in hybrid sedan: Analyzing the rapid progress made by Smart

The rate at which Smart has released its vehicles, considering the early obstacles that it had to overcome, is impressive. The Smart #6 is the beginning of a new era for the Chinese-based corporation as it hopes to become a significant player in the EV market. Importantly, it is the company’s first sedan, which is unlike its typical compact city cars, with which it has become synonymous. Ultimately, the hybrid sedan will allow Smart to compete in both the compact vehicle category and the sedan category.

Reviewing the specifications of the Smart #6 plug-in hybrid sedan

According to reports, the car is 4.9m long, 1.9 metres wide, and 1.5 metres tall. These might seem like a bunch of random numbers, but there is a deeper meaning behind them. The Smart #6’s features mean that it enters the realm of cars such as the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class, which have been competing for decades. Since Mercedes-Benz partially owns Smart, this could all be a ploy to strategically compete against BMW by having two strong vehicles in every category. The car’s exterior has a clean, aero-optimised silhouette with compact overhangs that complete its mature design language. So far, Smart has played its cards close to the chest by not releasing pictures of the car’s appearance, and this might work out in the company’s favour by creating a surprise element.

Can the Smart #6 become a global sensation, or will it only impact China?

Reports suggest that the car will be first released in China, which leads one to wonder if it might have a global impact someday. Although it cannot be said with absolute certainty, what is unquestionable is that Smart #6 possesses all the required characteristics to have a worldwide impact. For instance, it has an advanced plug-in hybrid system called Electric Hybrid Drive (EHD). The technological innovation is complemented by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor and a three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT). Its pure electric range is an estimated 275-285 km (CLTC cycle), meaning it can function on electricity alone.

Since the Smart #6 is slated for a late 2025 release, it can only be thoroughly reviewed in 2026. However, from what is known so far, the car is set to become popular among people seeking a cheaper premium vehicle with top-notch features attained from the ever-reliable Mercedes-Benz and Geely. The mission to transform Smart into a leading global brand for premium, all-electric vehicles is entirely underway and will be successful if the strategic releases continue.
