Walmart, one of America’s top retailers, just became a streaming powerhouse. The retailer now offers a free streaming service, which falls under one of the benefits the retailer provides. The retail giant always finds ways to make things convenient and exciting for its consumers. This new streaming option is doing just that, making it exciting for the consumers.

The retailer’s new benefit

Walmart has always been known for its good quality products at cheap and affordable prices. The retail giant always had a focus on providing its consumers with specific benefits to promote consumer satisfaction. That is why this new benefit is not really a surprise, because everyone already knows the retailer is always up for something new and beneficial.

The retail giant Walmart is adding another benefit when it comes to its subscription service as it continues its war with Amazon. It is expected that Walmart+ members will get Peacock’s ad-tier plan at no extra cost. This implementation will officially start on September 15, 2025.

In addition, this means that the subscribers can now stream shows such as Real Housewives, SNL, The Traitors, plus NFL, NBA, and Olympic coverage. Consumers can get all of this for less than merely buying the service directly. This is also another strategy for the retailer to get more people to subscription to membership of the retailer.

Walmart versus Amazon streaming services

This specific streaming deal is the recent highlight in Walmart’s rivalry with Amazon. Amazon provides its own streaming service, which is known as Prime Video. This option that Amazon provides is bundled with its $139-a-year Prime membership.

In addition, Amazon has been growing and strengthening its catalog with NFL games, James Bond films, and some massive studio offers. Both, Walmart and Amazon have been locked in a bitter rivalry for several years. Each one of them always vying to claim the title of America’s largest retailer when it comes to total sales.

This battle stretches extremely wide. For example, it stretches across brick-and-mortar stores, e-commerce, and increasingly, subscription services. It also includes the streaming content, as both companies are always looking for techniques to capture consumer loyalty and dominate daily spending.

Moreover, the Walmart+ launched in September 2020, meaning it has been in operation for five years now. On the other hand, Amazon’s Prime started in February 2005. So, Walmart+ started the become a direct competitor for Amazon Prime in the last five years.

More recently, the Walmart Deals has been launched to directly serve as a competitor for Amazon Prime Day. Meanwhile, Walmart’s special deal for free Peacock is being implemented the month after the streaming service heightened prices.

What is next?

When looking back at July, Peacock indicated that it will be increasing prices by as much as 40 percent. The Apple TV’s monthly subscription price also increased from $9.99 to $12.99 in August 2025. Additionally, over the past 18 months, nearly all big streamers have increased their prices.

Also, In January 2025, Netflix increased prices for its ad tier subscription to $7.99. The Paramount Plus did the same thing last June. It is important to note that Max, Hulu, and Disney+ now all cost at least $9.99 after several rises that occurred last summer. Consumers should take a thorough look at these prices before making decisions. It is also important to note that the Prime Video costs $8.99 a month, when it is taken on its own.

Since Walmart+ and Amazon Prime are both big names with their own quality services, consumers have to look at what works best for them. Walmart is a retailer that has benefits for several departments and becoming a member will always be in the best interest of the consumer.
