Over the past few months, the government issued several recalls that affected retailers. Now, a nationwide recall has been issued that affects both Costco and Sam’s Club. Recalls generally occur when certain products can impact the health and safety of consumers.  Consumers are encouraged to remain vigilant whenever they see this product and to take the necessary steps when they buy the affected product.

The details behind the recall

It has been a Popular snack sold at Costco and Sam’s Club stores nationwide, which has been recalled. It has been found that more than 2 million pounds of ready-to-eat Korean barbecue pork jerky products have been contaminated.

This product, which has been shipped to Costco and Sam’s Club stores nationally, has been recalled over fears that it may be contaminated with pieces of metal, federal health officials warned.  In addition, South Dakota-based LSI Inc. recalled its jerky product, labeled Golden Island fire-grilled pork jerky Korean barbecue recipe.

This took place after multiple consumers reported finding wiry metal in the product. This has been confirmed by the United States Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) stated in the warning notice posted on Saturday. The company discovered that the metal found in the products had originated from the conveyor belt which was used in production.

The affected Costco and Sam’s Club product

The Golden Island Korean barbecue jerky could contain metal pieces, hence the regulators warning. As could be imagined, this could be an extremely dangerous situation.  It is important to note that FOX Business reached out to Sam’s Club, Costco and LSI Inc. for any comments.

Also, the USDA stated there have been no confirmed reports of injuries due to consumption of this product. However, the officials have been saying that anyone concerned about an injury should contact a healthcare provider immediately

Consumers should note that the impacted products have a one-year shelf-life with “best by” dates ranging from October 23, 2025, through to September 23, 2026. Consumers are encouraged to have a look at the dates which are printed on the side of the packaging of the recalled products.

It is also important to emphasise the fact that the product comes in 14.5-ounce and 16-ounce plastic pouches. The establishment number that the product has is “M279A” and it can be found inside the USDA mark of inspection.

What consumers should do next

Consumers are encouraged to not purchase this product because of the contamination it is consisting of. They should look at the best by dates and the locations and stores where they purchased it, to ensure the products they have are safe to consume. If there are any consumer who may have this product at home, they are encouraged to immediate get rid of it and not to eat it. Affected consumers are urged to throw affected products away or return it to the store where they purchased it.
