Christmas is coming to Costco — 5 top-festive items in the “What’s New?” aisle

One of America’s well-known retail chains, Big Lots, is back on the map. The chain has been struggling for the last year and many stores have been closed down. However, consumers who have been loyal customers at Big Lots can expect to see a return. Several stores will reopen nationally after the chain was classified as bankrupt last year and due to this, many store closures occurred. Now, a big comeback is on the way, with renovations, remodelling, and re-merchandising prospects.

The story behind store closures

Last year, during 2024, Big Lots experienced an extremely difficult time. One might as well say that last year was the worst year for the retail chain because of all the challenges it had to endure after 57 years of existence. It experienced severe financial difficulties for several years and made a huge announcement in December 2024. The announcement was that it would be going out of business and that the closing down of stores in 870 locations would occur. As a result, 27 00 jobs were compromised and left thousands of people unemployed.

In addition, to try to resolve this issue, the Gordon Brothers bought Big Lots and tried to manage the store closures. This did not go as planned because, in the last days of 2024, Variety Wholesalers made their appearance and agreed that they would buy 200 locations. These locations will be bought from the liquidator, so that the chain can still operate under the Big Lots brand. Variety is extremely big, and it is the owner of various discount chain stores, including Roses, Bill’s Dollar Stores, Super Dollar, and Bargain Town.

The dates of the reopening of stores

As the Big Lots stores are busy with its cleaning, remodeling, and re-merchandise process, many stores will soon reopen. The reopening and first in a series of four spheres of “soft openings,” are scheduled for next month, May 2025. It is important that consumers are made known about when and where the Big Lots stores will reopen. Also, it is essential to note that the locations will reopen in four spheres from April 2025 through early June 2025.

Consumers should take not of the dates when the stores will reopen in the various locations. This will give them time to embrance themselves and get themselves ready for shopping at Big Lots.

Big Lots’: Store Locations

The North Carolina-based retail company, known as Variety Wholesalers, has taken control of hundreds of the ailing retailer’s stores. It has also confirmed with Fast Company that it is planning to reopen some of the locations that it has acquired. Fast Company has reported as many as 200 Big Lots stores that were assigned to Variety Wholesalers as part of a deal with Gordon Brothers, the liquidation firm that took control of the retailer. Fast Company has now learned that the first of these spheres is underway and below is the list of locations where this will occur:

Kentucky

  • 1342 Indian Mound Dr, Mount Sterling, KY

Louisiana

  • 755 Veterans Memorial Blvd, Metairie, LA

Mississippi

  • 2605 W Main St, Tupelo, MS
  • 5778 Hwy 80 E, Pearl, MS

North Carolina

  • 1432 E Dixie Dr, Asheboro, NC

Tennessee

  • 1041 S Riverside Dr, Clarksville, TN
  • 744 Nashville Pike, Gallatin, TN
  • 220 Dickson Plaza Dr, Dickson, TN

Virginia

  • 2911 Hershberger Rd NW, Roanoke, VA

Some of the other states where the Big Lots stores will reopen, besides the ones listed above, include Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and West Virginia. Consumers should look at the list of the dates and locations of when and where Big Lots stores will reopen. Who knows, it might just be, close to you and you will not have to travel a long distance to get your hands on products from a Big Lots store.
