Federal CIO Vivek Kundra takes leave

Vivek Kundra takes leave of absence after the arrest of a former employee by the FBI.

Vivek Kundra has taken a leave of absence from his newly appointed position as federal chief information officer, following the arrests of a former employee and a contractor as part of a federal investigation.

Kundra, former chief technology officer for Washington, D.C.'s city government, agreed to take the leave last night, according to a Washington Post report.

The FBI arrested Yusuf Acar, an information security specialist who worked for Kundra, and charged him with bribery, conspiracy, money laundering and conflict of interest. The FBI also arrested Sushil Bansal, president and chief executive officer of Advanced Integrated Technologies Corp., on charges of bribery and money laundering. The two allegedly collaborated in a kickback scheme involving city contracts.

Kundra is not suspected of any wrongdoing.
