SSA investigates data center management options
The Social Security Administration is conducting market research on data center infrastructure management tools to help it report operational and optimization metrics.
The DCIM software would be installed initially at SSA’s two onsite data centers in the development, test and production environments and be capable of expanding to monitoring thousands of data center racks across multiple locations, according to a July 8 request for information.
Besides tracking all computer room resources -- such as physical/virtual server utilization, storage allocation/utilization, facilities -- the systems must have a web interface, support single sign on and interface with commercial building, power and asset management software products as well as SSA’s customized applications.
Any vendor would be expected to provide a comprehensive tool that supports asset management, planning and alerting and includes built-in dashboards for key performance indicators such as capacity, power and energy usage effectiveness and compute efficiency.
The DCIM must be able to report data center optimization and energy metrics for compliance with Portfoliostat, the Federal Information Technology Acquisition Reform Act, the Data Center Optimization Initiative and executive orders on energy efficiency.
Responses are due by July 26.
