BMW has unveiled its revolutionary iX3 electric SUV at IAA Mobility in Munich as the first automobile suitable for series production based on the company’s revolutionary Neue Klasse platform. The completely electric Sports Activity Vehicle is a major technological leap forward with sixth-generation eDrive technology providing up to 805 kilometers of range and 400kW charging capability.
Revolutionary design language defines new BMW era
The new BMW iX3 is here โ and with it a whole new era of Sheer Driving Pleasure. The first series-produced Neue Klasse model was presented at IAA Mobility in Munich. With a new design language, sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology with impressive electric range and charging rate, and the most advanced driver orientation thanks to BMW Panoramic iDrive, the BMW iX3 is a spearhead for remarkable innovations, which will shape the brand’s entire model range in the future.
At the presentation at IAA Mobility in Munich, the first sight of the Neue Klasse revealed the leap forward in development it has made. Compared to its predecessor of the same name, the new BMW iX3 creates the impression that design and technology have skipped a complete vehicle generation. The new designย language of the BMW iX3 is a very modern interpretation of BMW’s original and enduring blueprint: characterful, timeless, and reduced to the essence of the brand.
Sixth-generation eDrive technology delivers exceptional performance capabilities
The BMW iX3 50 xDrive is powered by two electric motors. Together, they generate an output of 345 kW/469 hp and a maximum torque of 645 Nm. The BMW iX3 50 xDrive accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and achieves a top speed of 210 km/h.ย With a rangeย of up to 805 kilometres (WLTP) and a peak charging rate of 400 kW, the new BMW iX3 sets new standards for efficiency and long-distance capability.
Advanced charging infrastructure supports long-distance travel
The Neue Klasse also boasts an impressive charging experience. At an 800V direct current (DC) rapid charging station, users can add up to 372 kilometres of range to the new BMW iX3 50x Drive in just ten minutes. The iX3 will initially be sold only as an approximately $60,000 dual-motor 50 xDrive model with a 108-kilowatt-hour battery yielding 400-mile range, but Nicholas Gerstner, a BMW product manager for the Neue Klasse, said that single-motor versions are in the pipeline for 2027.
Another factor behind these values is the new electronics and software architecture in the BMW iX3. Four superbrain high-performance computers make the first Neue Klasse model more intelligent and better equipped for the future than ever.ย The “Heart of Joy” drivetrain and driving dynamics management technology enable unmatched handling dynamism and precision, while the latest systems for automated driving optimise symbiotic human-vehicle interaction.
BMW Panoramic iDrive revolutionizes driver-focused interface design
This is particularly noticeable when you take your place in the driver’s seat of the new BMW iX3. Here, the new BMW Panoramic iDrive elevates operation and driver focus for which the brand is renowned to a new level. With its balanced combination of digital functions and physical elements, the revolutionary display and control/operation concept facilitates intuitive operation according to BMW’s fabled “hands on theย wheel, eyes on the road” principle.
The BMW iX3 is a transformative vehicle in the evolution of automotive, bridging the gap between cutting-edge design and cutting-edge electric technology. As the flagship of BMW’s Neue Klasse platform, this model sets new standards for oscillating-driven fine motor and the charging capability, as well as the digital integration of the electric vehicles. The sustainable production process and innovative material used within the vehicle are proof of BMW’s sustainable production and environmental responsibility, while not compromising its philosophy of delivering superior driving pleasure.
