Cyberattack confirmation Tire manufacturing giant Bridgestone Americas has confirmed a cyberattack that temporarily halted production operations at several facilities throughout the North America region, including a facility in South Carolina and Quebec, which compelled the company to use emergency containment measures as it probed the security intrusion that affected its manufacturing systems and operational infrastructure throughout the region.

The company verifies a minor cyber-incident

According to BleepingComputer, car tire giant Bridgestone confirms it is researching a cyberattack that affects the work of certain manufacturing plants in North America. The company is of the view that the attack was contained at its initial stages due to its fast response, and the company was not robbed of customer data or a deep network intrusion.

Bridgestone Americas (BSA) is the North American affiliate of Bridgestone, a Japanese multinational tire producer, the largest tire manufacturer in the world in terms of production of tires. BSA possesses 50 manufacturing facilities, and it hires 55,000 people, which is about 43 percent of Bridgestone Corporation.

On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, it was announced that there was a cybersecurity attack that had affected two BSA plants in Aiken County, South Carolina. The following day, a Canadian publication told of the same disruptions in the manufacturing facility of BSA in Joliette, Quebec.

Security team detects unauthorized access

According to Cyber Press, at about 2.00 AM local time on Tuesday, the security team at Bridgestone realized that it was receiving unusual network traffic and attempted access to its internal production control systems and in this case, the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) network segment, which was network segment.

The incident response plan included isolation of the impacted VLANs, the incident response team, checking of backups, and endpoint detection deployment. Even though there were several locations where production was put on hold, Bridgestone gave the affected employees a chance to stay on-site, carrying out preventative maintenance at full pay.

In its statement to BleepingComputer, Bridgestone writes: “Bridgestone Americas is actively investigating a confined cyberattack that has affected certain manufacturing plants of the company. Our group reacted swiftly to curb the problem in accordance with our standard procedures.

The production activities are restored to normal

As the forensic investigation continues, the company has not lost confidence that it was capable of containing this confined cyber attack in its early stages. According to Bridgestone, none of the customers’ data or interfaces have been compromised in the security breach. In the meantime, the company has indicated that its employees are working 24/7 to prevent the effect and reduce the fallout in the supply chain that may cause a shortage of goods in the market.

Sustaining business continuity, securing data, and interfaces have been and remain our priority, as stated by the spokesperson of Bridgestone. BleepingComputer questioned Bridgestone whether the attack was ransomware, but they still not been clarified on the same. By the time of writing, any ransomware group had claimed responsibility for the attack at Bridgestone Americas.

Forensic analysis is still followed up with an investigation

The assertion by Bridgestone was centered on the reality that its existing system in cybersecurity of today, which encompasses multi-factor authentication and network separation with continuous security monitoring, enabled it to identify and isolate the breach in time. The full forensic investigation is underway to determine the pattern of the attack, the malware used, and any long-term effects.

The quick reaction that Bridgestone used to counter the cyberattack reflects the relevance of effective incident response measures in the manufacturing setting. Although the production has already been restored, and the information of the customers does not seem to be compromised, the incident indicates that industrial companies will continue to face various cybersecurity threats and that the overall scope of security measures is essential.
