A major Italian brand is to abandon its most famous combustion engine, which has become synonymous with power in the automotive sector. The news officially marks the end of the manufacturer’s era pof pure combustion supercars. This process will happen as the brand prepares to begin production of a new engine, which promises to be unlike anything seen before. Find out why production of this engine ended and what we can expect from the new release.

The luxury and speed characteristic of Bugatti

The quad-turbo W16 engine is one of the most iconic in the automotive market, considered even by experts to be the best ever. This is all because it has 1,577 horsepower, capable of pushing the car over 400 km/h. This incredible engine is part os the Mistral model from the Italian luxury brand Bugatti, of which only 99 units are being custom-built for its buyers — who shelled out around US$ 5 million to own this dream car —, and even before production began, all of its production units has already sold out.

This engine has undergone numerous testing phases in the Mistral, and now has this final version that is considered the fastest. This Mistral embodies everything Bugatti fans love: extreme luxury, unparalleled performance, and attention to every detail, including the choice of its name — from one of the eight main Mediterranean winds — and its colors, Glacier White and Carbon Black, adding a touch of elegance and luxury, classic hallmarks of the Italian brand.

Deliveries of the Mistral have finally begun, and the first buyers to receive this luxurious car are from the United States, but the car has buyers all over the world. Following this long-awaited delivery, the company has already confirmed that it will begin production of its newest engine, the Tourbilon V-16. This is the end of an era for W16 fans, but the beginning of a very exciting new one, if the new model delivers on everything the brand has promised.

Bugatti maintains its essence, even in energy transition

Bugatti says it’s ready to dive into its new era with the launch of the Tourbilon V-6. The new model maintains familiar Bugatti engine features, such as displacement, but brings innovation with its hybrid design featuring three electric motors. The Italian company has been striving to comply with new European Union emissions regulations, and is therefore increasingly investing in electric power.

In this new phase, Bugatti has promised that the W16 was its last combustion engine and is focusing its efforts on developing new electrified vehicles, now in partnership with Rimac. The new V-16 is powerful, fast, and sustainable; the company claims it revs to 9,000 rpm, making it much more agile than even its classic Chiron model.

The V-16 engine has everything it needs to be a worthy successor to the Mistral. With its 8.3 liters, it’s promising to help the brand break its speed record for its exclusivity and always manufacturing a small number of its models, announced that the Tourbilon will be limited to just 250 units, making the car even more desirable for the brand’s customers. Deliveries of this model begin in 2026, and the public can’t wait to get their hands on it.

What to expect from the future of Bugatti?

Bugatti closes this chapter beautifully with its classic internal combustion engine model, the Mistral W16, and begins a new chapter even better: more sustainable, faster, and electric, with the Tourbilon V-16. This model not only accelerates, but will also have a positive impact on the luxury car market. Now, with its eye on the future of the automotive industry, the brand remains firmly established as a benchmark in the luxury cars, but this time making history in a different way.
