According to Porsche, its next all-electric Cayenne will be the first model in the brand line to have optional wireless charging technology. The new system offers up to 11kW of charging power at a single inductive floor plate, and, therefore, does not require cables or plugs when charged at home. A prototype with fluorescent paint was presented in the 2025 IAA Mobility exhibition in Munich, where the technology was demonstrated.

The first Porsche to have wireless charging

Inductive charging has made the process of using the mobile phone easier: all one needs to do is insert the smartphone into a charging cradle, and the energy will flow. Porsche will also start to provide such convenient technology to electric vehicles: The new, all-electric Cayenne will become the first Porsche model that could be equipped with the optional inductive charging floor plate, as Porsche Newsroom announced. The innovative technology is exhibited in a prototype at the 2025 IAA Mobility in Munich using fluorescent paint.

The determining factors in the process of accepting electric mobility are still ease of use, suitability for daily use, and charging stations, according to the Porsche Board Member of Development, Michael Steiner. We are pleased that inductive charging will come to series production in Porsche soon. It is now easier and convenient to charge an electric car at home than before.

One-box charging system that is advanced

Any customer who wants to enjoy the benefit of inductive charging at home with the new Cayenne Electric will have the option of ordering the car with an optional Porsche Wireless Charging receiver unit in the undercarriage between the front wheels. Porsche will also become the first car manufacturer to introduce battery-electric vehicles with an 11 kW charging system with a one-box base plate.

One-Box refers to the fact that the whole of the components except the supply cable are built into the floor plate – no wall box or control unit is necessary. All the Cayenne does to trigger the process of charging is to park over the floor plate. Transmission of energy between the two charging units happens without the need for contact over a distance of about four to six inches.

In order to accomplish this, the Cayenne lowers the ride height automatically. The base plate possesses foreign object detection and a motion detector. Charging is automatically stopped in case of any interference. Porsche Wireless Charging will also be available in the My Porsche app, thus allowing tracking of the charging processes.

An experimental fluorescent prototype

The Surround View parking feature includes a special view that allows people to operate the Cayenne in the most appropriate position to charge the battery. The moment the parking height is higher than the floor plate is attained and the parking brake is turned on, the charging process starts. There is nothing more that customers are required to do. The wireless charging is also available in convenience features that are familiar with AC charging, like departure timer with cabin preconditioning.

When it was first shown in the UK, the Cayenne generated a buzz with a flashy wrap. Similarly, innovative fluorescent paint is now available in the IAA show car in Munich. The moment electricity is conducted, the thrilling body appearance in brightly colored surfaces is formed: Style Porsche developed the dynamic camouflage pattern.

The presentation of the 11kW wireless charging technology by Porsche is a great progressive step into the convenience of electric vehicles, making it unnecessary to use cables and plugs to charge the car at home. The one-box system and automated payment procedure are innovative and prove the intention to make electric mobility more convenient. As the Cayenne Electric will be introduced to the world at the end of 2025, this technology will make Porsche a leader in EV-charging innovations.
