Toyota Motor Europe has begun mass production of this revolutionary new model, called the Aygo X Hybrid, at its manufacturing plant in the Czech Republic. This is a very important milestone because it indicates that affordable hybrid technology is about to become a reality. The new city car is actually the first full hybrid model available within the A-segment market and achieves best-in-class CO₂ performance with the lowest emissions level among any non-plug-in hybrid on the market.

Czech facility leads Toyota’s hybrid accessibility revolution

The manufacturing of this new model, called Aygo X Hybrid, started at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Czech Republic in Kolin, where it has invested heavily in new materials to minimize negative effects on the environment. The factory provides employment to approximately 3,200 workers and uses 65% of its parts within the region due to Toyota’s commitment to regional manufacturing.

The Kolin factory has produced more than 2.3 million Toyota vehicles since its inception in 2002. The variants include the original Aygo, Aygo X, and Yaris. The factory is also gearing up to build battery electric vehicles. This is part of Toyota’s multiple pathway approach to achieve carbon neutrality. The factory is thus an integral part of Toyota’s Europe-wide shift to electricity.

Estimates by Toyota show that there is a lower emissions life cycle of 18% than the previous model, according to the WLTP Combined CO₂ information available on JATO up to May 2025.

Hybrid technology transforms Europe’s smallest vehicle segment

The new Aygo X Hybrid combines Toyota’s legendary hybrid technology with the company’s smallest and most affordable model to achieve better fuel efficiency and handling dynamics while ensuring state-of-the-art safety technology. This is a historic step by Toyota to make eco-mobility a reality for every European consumer while not sacrificing quality or driving fun.

Peter Rade, Vice President Quality at Toyota Motor Europe, stressed the importance of setting up hybrid technology within their most affordable model. The new Aygo X Hybrid boasts 86g CO₂/km emissions, marking a new era of efficiency within A-segment citycars while still offering the same lines that make the model popular, having launched back in 2021.

Production milestone helps Toyota achieve carbon-neutral objective by 2040

The company is working to achieve carbon-neutral status by 2040 in Europe and by 2030 at its European manufacturing plants. The TMMCZ plant is moving ahead on this standard with initiatives such as energy efficiency, renewables, and processes to minimize harm to the environment while continuing to produce quality vehicles.

Multi-pathway strategy expands electrified vehicle options

The launch of Aygo X Hybrid is the final addition to Toyota’s range of self-charging hybrid electric vehicles across its main markets in Europe. Robert Kiml, President of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Czech, said he is pleased to mark the start of mass production of Aygo X Hybrid while simultaneously gearing up to build battery electric vehicles.

The new product is based on a 20-year lineage of building the Aygo range, which kicked off in February 2005, with more than 365,000 units sold within the range due to the 2021 launch of the Aygo X compact crossover variant. This is a sign that Toyota is capable of developing its most affordable European model while making it more convenient and equipped with innovative technology.

The launch of Toyota’s Aygo X Hybrid signals a paradigm shift toward making hybrid technology available to European consumers across a broad spectrum of cars. The manufacturing plant located in the Czech Republic exemplifies Toyota’s foothold within the region to complement its objective to support sustainability within the environment. This accomplishment makes Toyota a pioneer in making electrified mobility more popular to ensure low-emission cars are within consumers’ budget constraints.
