Christmas is coming to Costco — 5 top-festive items in the “What’s New?” aisle

Costco, one of America’s top retailers, rolled out a new door policy. This is a mandate that consumers should adhere to and familiarize themselves with before driving to one of the stores. This retailer is really strict when it comes to certain requirements and rules. Since August 31, 2025, this policy has officially come into effect, and customers are encouraged to follow it; otherwise, they may be denied entry.

The new mandate

This top retailer implemented a new policy recently, and it started on June 30, 2025. However, a grace period was given before it went into complete operation, and now that period officially came to an end. On August 31, 2025, this grace period came to an end, and all consumers are required to follow this new mandate of this retail powerhouse.

This new policy implemented by Costco is truly a controversial one.  Many members and employees of the retailer are upset about it. Despite how many may feel and think about this new change, the grace period is over and now the strict enforcement of the policy will start. Due to this new policy, many consumers might be prevented from entering the premises of the retailer.

This new policy changes the rules for all consumers, and it specifically affects the operation hours of stores. Costco made and announcement stating that there is a specific category of consumers who will be allowed to shop for extended hours. This option will not be made available to other. According to the company’s website, this is what it stated: ““As of June 30, 2025, exclusive earlier shopping hours for Executive members may be available at your local warehouse. Check store details for more information.”

Costco’s plan to Reward Executive Members

The fact that Costco is providing extended hours for executive members, should be seen as a perk because it is one of the methods the retailer is using to make the tier more attractive. This policy will show how members can benefit and as a result other might want to join this tier. Rewards will also be provided to those who spend extra for a higher-priced membership. Also, those consumers who are seen as the most frequent shoppers will also benefit from this.

In addition, Costco told Business Insider that: “Our Executive Members are our most loyal members, and we want to reward them for their commitment to Costco.” The fact that Costco stores can become extremely crowed, especially over weekends, this reward becomes even more valuable. This reward could, therefore, encourage people to opt for a higher membership tier.

How to benefit from this new policy

Now that there is a new policy, many consumers might want to form part of the group that will be receiving these benefits. If a consumer would like to become an executive member and they want to shop early, there is some important aspects that consumers should take note of. The first important point is that there are two distinct membership tiers. As alluded by the retailer, the two tiers contain the following:

  • Executive Membership: The costs for this membership are $130 per year, and it comes with the extra shopping hours. It also provides consumers with a 2% back on qualifying Costco purchases.
  • Gold Star membership: This membership costs $65 per year and does not include any cash back, nor does it include extended hours.

In addition, another option would be the Business Membership. This membership is also priced at $65 and does not allow you to access the store early.

However, many people are unhappy about this new policy, and some complained that the policy was too similar to that of Costco’s rival, Sam’s Club. Many of the non-executive members were upset about the fact that this new policy only benefits some consumers. They shared their unhappiness on social media and Gary Blake said the following: “I immediately canceled my membership for a 100% refund. The company breached the terms in which I took out the membership. I burned up a gallon of gas to get there at what was the normal time, had trouble walking and no consideration, I was told to wait 1/2 hour. Sayonara…I’ll stick with BJs and continue to be treated with respect.”
