Christmas is coming to Costco — 5 top-festive items in the “What’s New?” aisle

Once the calendar reaches April, preparations for Easter Sunday are set in motion and shopping for this holiday is a rather visually pleasing task as many retailers adorn their stores with decorations of bunnies and chicks, all set to a pastel color palette.

Many retailers will also be observing the springtime holiday and as such, they will be closing for 24 hours come Easter Sunday which will be celebrated on April 20. Also known as Resurrection Sunday or Pascha, Easter is a Christian holiday that is celebrated to mark the end of Lent. Rather than being celebrated on a fixed date, the holiday is determined based on the lunar cycle and falls between March 22 and April 25 as it falls on “the first Sunday after the first full moon following the spring equinox.”

Based on these calculations, it was determined that Easter will be celebrated on Sunday, April 20 this year.

Target will be closing all of its doors to celebrate Easter Sunday

Alongside families celebrating the holiday later this month will be many major retailers who will also be closing their doors for the day to honor the holiday. Target, in particular has confirmed that all 1,978 of its doors will be shut for the day of festivities so loyalists to the brand should ensure they stock up on their plastic eggs and candy in advance as there will be no Target open for any last minute shopping.

According to an email sent to The U.S. Sun, a spokesperson for Target stated that, “Guests can expect regular store hours on April 19 and can check Target.com or the Target app for local store information.”

Easter is not the only holiday that is observed by the big box giant. Shoppers will also find that the retailer is closed to observe the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Target is generally also closed for other major holidays such as Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, and New Year’s Day.

Target is not alone in this 24 hour blackout in honor of the holiday. Aldi has also confirmed that all of its nearly 2,500 stores will be closed on April 20. The case is the same with Costco Wholesale who also confirmed that all 617 of its warehouses will be shut down for the day so as to allow its employees to celebrate the holiday comfortably. Sam’s Club and Publix have also followed suit with confirmed plans to close for Easter Sunday.

Who is not closing for 24 hours on Easter Sunday?

Even though we are already in April, not all retailers have confirmed their holiday schedules for 2025. It is quite simple, however, to deduce who is likely be open and who is not on Easter based on the previous year’s schedule.

Last year for Easter, JCPenney, Kohl’s, Macy’s, H-E-B, Michaels, Lowe’s, Best Buy, and Marshalls were all out of operation for the Easter holiday so it is more than likely the case will be same for this year.

Walmart, Trader Joe’s, and Kroger, on the other hand, were all open and operating as usual for the day and as such, customers with last minute grocery or plastic egg needs can turn to these stores come Sunday morning.

Easter deals to look out for

Easter aficionados who are on a budget should consider turning to Dollar Tree for all their plastic egg needs as the dollar store has many deals on offer for the holiday. Amongst the offerings are “adorable” bunny figurines that are going for the affordable price of $3 and many reviews of this item are describing it as “the cutest addition” for the holiday.

A $1.25 Easter essential that is being described as “cute” is also being cleared from the shelves of Dollar Tree as it is identical to an item sold by Amazon but costs 89% less.
