Christmas is coming to Costco — 5 top-festive items in the “What’s New?” aisle

Costco Wholesale has been a fan favorite for years for a good reason. The retailer offers a warehouse experience complete with discounted rates and a beloved food court. Additionally, the company’s in-house private label, Kirkland Signature, is the go-to brand for customers looking for goods in just about any department.

The membership fees charged by the retailer allows it to offer customers competitive pricing that cannot be matched by industry peers. The issue with private label products is that they have to be developed in-house and as such, it will take some time to grow the variety of offerings available for customers.

The warehouse is constantly working towards adding to its inventory and potato lovers are going to adore the latest Kirkland Signature item.

Costco adds to its Kirkland Signature inventory

The wholesale retailer is notorious for moving inventory around its warehouses and regularly cycling in new items and phasing out older ones. Whilst some shoppers might find this to be a nuisance, others would argue that shopping at a Costco warehouse has the anticipation of a treasure hunt built into you grocery run.

The latest seasonal line-up for spring has several new items on the horizon. One item in particular has customers buzzing with joy. The retailers Kirkland Signature brand will soon be unveiling its very own Crispy French Fries. The new frozen fries will be sold in five pound bags and will soon be gracing the freezer section of the warehouse in coming days.

This is the first offering of its kind for the retailer’s private label brand. Previously, the warehouse only stocked  Ore-Ida brand frozen French fries.

The announcement for this tasty new product was made on March 6 when the news release was sent out during the company’s second quarter earnings call. Users on Reddit, however, have shared posts claiming that the new Kirkland Signature Crispy French Fries has already been spotted in some stores since as early as January of this year.

Customer reactions with a side of ketchup

Those lucky enough to have spotted and tried a bag of the new fries have responded positively, with some posts on Reddit even asking for the crispy spuds to be sold at the food court.

“Bought these on Sunday,” one Costco customer shared on Reddit. “They are a pretty decent fry. Thicker cut and potato forward. I love them. Bought instead of the ore-ida and won’t be going back as long as they sell them.”

On the same Reddit thread, another shopper praised the crispy coating of the fries. “They crisp up nicely in the toaster oven and almost have a potato starch powder on some to crisp like curly fries.”

Other users likened the new fries to that of the hand cut style fries sold by Lamb Weston’s and this was meant as a compliment.

The downside to immediate popularity with a new product at Costco can unfortunately lead to the item being sold out before you even have a chance to get to the store. This appears to be the case for the Kirkland Crispy Fries as well. “They’ve been out of stock at my store every time I’ve gone since they released—people must like them,” another Reddit user sadly noted.

Cost and availability

One 5-pound bag of Kirkland Signature Crispy French Fries will set you back $6.79 and the approximate price per pound is $1.36 making this a rather affordable deal. When compared to Amazon Fresh’s Lamb Weston’s Hand Cut Style Fries, Costco’s Kirkland Crispy Fries boasts a 60% reduction in pricing. Lamb Weston is priced at $5.99 for a 1.75 pound bag ($3.42 per pound).

The Kirkland Signature Fries will eventually be rolled out nationwide at every Costco Warehouse in the coming days. Redditors have noted that for the time being, you are more likely to find the fries in the Western half of the country.
