Christmas is coming to Costco — 5 top-festive items in the “What’s New?” aisle

If your kitchen is fitted with LG electric stoves that have been purchased over the last ten years, it would perhaps be in your best interests to order take-out for dinner tonight and check the serial number of your appliance instead of cooking with it. A massive recall for ten years worth of electric stoves manufactured by LG has been issued by the Consumer Product Safety Commission just a few days ago.

Electric stoves sparking cause for concern

On February 6, the Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a large scale recall of over 500,000 LG manufactured electric stoves. The recalled appliance was sold online at LG.com, as well as at Costco, Lowe’s, Home Depot, Best Buy, and other various appliance retailers. The price of these stoves ranged between $1,400 and $2,650.

The CPSC issued this recall after an alarming number of fires in homes were linked back to the stoves in question. Over the past ten years, there have been around thirty fires in homes across the country. The models that are being called back are the LG Slide-In ranges and Freestanding ranges.

The cause of concern with these models are the knobs. It seems that the stove have a front-mounted knob design that is quite sensitive. As a result, if a person or pet accidently knocks the knob, it will likely switch the stove on by accident and possibly without the person realizing it.

These electric stove models have been sold from 2015 up to January of 2025 with a shocking total of 86 reports of accidents being caused as a result of the stove being switched on unbeknownst to the homeowner — and the list of damages reported is rather worrying.

According to the recall notice, these Slide-In ranges and Freestanding ranges have been a direct cause for property damage done to five properties as a result of a fire. The collective damages from these property fires amounted to more than $340,000. Additionally, there have been eight reports of minor injuries such burns and the especially sad outcome from these stove related fires are the three fires that resulted in pet deaths.

Stove model numbers to look out for

As mentioned above, the LG Slide-In ranges and Freestanding ranges are being recalled. The Consumer Product Safety Commission has listed the model numbers of recalled appliances on its website. The model numbers are as follows:

  • LDE4411ST
  • LDE4413ST
  • LDE4413BD
  • LSE4611ST
  • LSE4611BD
  • LSE4613ST
  • LSE4613BD
  • LSEL6337D
  • LSEL6337F
  • LSEL6331F
  • LSEL6333F
  • LSEL6333D
  • LSEL6335D
  • LSEL6335F
  • LTE4815BM
  • LTE4815BD
  • LTE4815ST
  • LRE4215ST
  • LTEL7337F

The model number can be found either in the oven door or alternatively, in the storage drawer at the bottom of the unit.

What do you if your stove is part of the recall

The stove manufacturer, LG, has urged customers to contact them directly if their electric stove is categorized under this recall. The company will provide customers with a free warning label and clear instructions on how and where to place it on the stove so that it is prominently displayed as a reminder and future accidents are avoided.

These electric stoves also come with a built-in Control Lock or Lock Out system that can be found in the control panel and LG is urging customers to familiarize themselves with this useful feature as it blocks the heating elements from activating when the hobs are not in use.

LG and the Consumer Product Safety Commission have also compiled a few extra preventative measures to keep in mind so as to ensure a flame-free household. These include keeping your pets and children away from the appliance, and checking that the ranges are all switched off every evening before bed, before leaving home, or when going on vacation. Storing items on top of the stove when it is not in use is also heavily discouraged.
