Several recalls have been occurring over the past few months, and now one of Costco’s popular products is being recalled. The Unites States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the retail giant issued an urgent notice for consumers not to eat the recalled product. The popular Kirkland Tuna has been recalled across 33 states because there is a possibility of it being contaminated with Listeria.

The recalled Costco product

There have been several recalls made by Costco in the past few weeks, and now the retailer and the FDA are warning consumers about a severe food safety issue. This occurred after thousands of pounds of Costco’s Kirkland Signature Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke were recalled.

This specific recall occurred after confirmation was received that the green onions used in the product may be contaminated with listeria. This is a bacterium that can cause severe, sometimes life-threatening illness. Some people are especially vulnerable when it comes to this infection such as young children, older adults, pregnant people, and those with compromised immune systems.

In addition, this affected product can be recognised by looking at certain aspects such as the fact that 3,314.7 pounds of Kirkland Signature Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke, that were sold under Costco’s deli section with item #17193, contain the green onion that tested positive for listeria.

Also, when it comes to the packaging of the affected product; it was packed on September 18, 2025, and carries a “sell by” date of September 22, 2025. The encourages all consumers who bought the affected poke to throw it out or return it immediately for a full refund.

This serious infection called Listeriosis, is a foodborne illness that can cause serious health problems for pregnant women. It can result in consequences such as miscarriages, stillbirths, or even premature births. Older people and those with weakened immune systems are also at risk, since listeria can cause bloodstream infections or meningitis.
