The tariff rates on products in America continue to rise, and now even gold tariffs are at the forefront. Several top retailers announced the increase of prices on certain products, due to these tariff rates that is continuously increasing.  Currently, there are talks about the implementation of new gold tariffs. The question now is the retailer giant, Costco’s popular Gold Bars will be affected by these tariff increases.

Costco’s Popular Gold Bars

The popular gold bars are only available on an online platform at Costco. It quickly became a fan favourite amongst consumers. If you purchase these gold bars, it is the easiest ways for you to get you hands on these metals if they are in stock. Since it high on demand consumers then to run before they lose out on getting their hands on one.

Moreover, gold had been powerfully rising the entire year and golf futures reached yet again, another high on Friday, August 8. However, the announcement that was made by the United States Customs alongside the Border Protection (CBP), about the additional gold tariffs on gold bars was a big surprise. It may have also impede some potential gold buyers.

In addition, the United States gold futures reduced on Monday in New York. The percentage decrease by 2% as the traders are waiting on clarification from the White House concerning the tariff policy. Costco sells Swiss-made gold bars which consist off 1-ounce, and this is sold to members through the company’s website.

Implementation of Gold Tariffs

These new gold tariffs implementation did not appear to be applying to the consumer gold buyers, but the published guidelines concerning this matter seems to be ambiguous. This was stated by Scott Travers, who is the editor in chief of COINage Magazine. He further alluded to the fact that the 1-kilogram and 100-ounce gold bars are being targeted by the 39% tariff ruling.

Travers told Yahoo Finance that it does not look like the 1-ounce gold bars have any gold tariffs. When it comes to the gold globally, these gold bars are described as the predominant investment vehicle and traded assets. He further mentioned that the 1-ounce gold bars sold at Costco is not mentioned in the United States Customs and Border Protection ruling. These are the items used in retail and in most of the minor investment transactions.

Impact on investors

Keeping all of these aforementioned points into mind, the question now reminds is what action should possible gold buyers take now? The princes of gold continue to rise due to tariffs and it even hit an severe high of $4,490 per ounce. This occurred at one point on Friday, showing that prices is constantly on a rise.

Travers stated that possible buyers should not currently take any action. They should not be buying in on this trend nor should they sell their specific gold holdings. He further claimed that prospective buyers should not buy into this idea that people are ignorant and are purchasing gold with the believing that the 1-ounce gold bars are subject to the gold tariffs.

A full disclosure was made when Travers admits that he is not really a fan of gold as an investment product, because he views it more as a way of “insurance” as well as a currency. He further added that gold can be used as an insurance policy of there would one day, God forbid, be a collapse of fiat currencies. Gold can be used to trade and it can be used to buy certain things, especially when it comes to an emergency. However, his advise for now is that until this whole situation is clarified, nobody should make any moves.
