The government issued a warning to prevent harm to users. One of the popular car brands, Toyota, made a recall on thousands of vehicles due to a digital display issue that needs to be addressed. If not, this may lead to severe incidents causing harm to both the users and other citizens nearby.

The instrument panel

Toyota issued a recall warning on 591,000 vehicles that may be affected by a digital display issue. It has been found that the Instrument panel screen of the car turns black once the vehicle is switched on. The instrument panel of vehicles, trucks, and SUVs plays a crucial role in the automobile.  Also, in the past decade or two, it has become more digitized.

In addition, digitalisation has become so used that the whole panel for a massive swath of today’s vehicles has gone fully digital. It also expanded beyond just the speedometer and tach and offers all manner of pertinent information. Unfortunately, for some of the Toyota and Lexus owners, there have been problems concerning their 12.3-inch digital dashboard displays.

The main issue in this regard is that the dashboard display goes blank. As could be imagined that could obviously be a pretty big problem and is now subject to a voluntary Toyota recall, with around 591,000 vehicles that has been affected.

The specific reason for the warning

The specific problem reported is that when the vehicle startup, the screen will be blank. As stated by a press release the Toyota company made a comment. The company stated that driving the vehicle without seeing the screen could lead to not being apprised of potentially important malfunction information. Therefore, it can lead to or be the cause of a crash as a result. It is unclear if the screens are going blank while the car is in motion.

There are several models listed in the recall that has been affected by this recall. Below are some of the vehicle Toyota models that has been affected by the recall warning:

  • Toyota Venza,
  • Crown Signia,
  • RAV4,
  • GR Corolla,
  • 4Runner,
  • Camry,
  • Grand Highlander,
  • Tacoma, and
  • Highlander.

When it comes to the Lexus models the following models are affected by this recall warning:

  • LS,
  • RX, and
  • TX series of vehicles.

There is no specific model year, nor trim level mentioned in the release that was sent out from Toyota. However, the 12.3-inch digital dashboard was offered as early as 2023 on most of the listed vehicles. Drivers are encouraged to remain vigilant and adhere to the warning issued by the government.

The digital dash problem

It has been stated that the problem that exist with the digital dash blanking, does not seem to be an entirely widespread issue. But it is important to adhere to the warning given by the government. In addition, the reason for this is because it was not stated as such in the field through a brief web search on Toyota’s safety recall bulletin number (25TB08) However, there has been mentions about what is happening on some 2023 and 2024 models.

On the other hand, when the vehicle is turned on and off again, it does not seem to temporarily fix the issue, either. In addition, the specific fix that was alluded to in the release, is to update the programming of the 12.3-inch dashboard display’s combination meter. It can also be to replace the combination meter altogether, which is a service that could take a few hours.

According to the forum and some of the dedicated Reddit users, they claim to have dealership technician access. This is an official permanent repair that is not ready just yet and may explain the slow rollout of recalls other owners are reporting. Additionally, the car company, Toyota, stated that all impacted owners will be notified with further information regarding the process by November of this year.
