Christmas is coming to Costco — 5 top-festive items in the “What’s New?” aisle

America’s top retailer, Walmart, announced a game-changing addition to the parking lots at its stores. This addition takes the future of technology to a brand-new level. As technology becomes more and more advanced, it is encouraged that companies are flexible and adaptable. This is what this powerhouse retailer is currently standing for. Electric Vehicles (EVs) can now be charged in the parking lots of the retailer and Sam’s Club stores. This is innovation on another level, while making life more convenient for consumers.

Walmart’s new stations

The retail giant has shared news on the plans to roll out a big network of electric vehicle (EV) chargers.  As reported by Charged EVs, this implementation of chargers will occur in various locations across the United States. Two years ago, in 2023, the company announced the installation of chargers that will take place in thousands of Walmart and Sam’s Club locations by the year 2030. Thus far, three pilot sites have been opened, and it is located in Texas with two sites and one in Arkansas.

As stated by Tom Moloughney, a charging industry expert, this is a big project Walmart is starting. He stated that this is about thousands of locations with tens of thousands of chargers that will be online by the end of this decade. It means that the retailer will not just focus on doing this for those people who are already members and Walmart customers. However, this is also a way to attract new people to the stores, which is quite brilliant.

How the charging process will work

There is a specific process that is in place that needs to be followed to secure a client’s charging session. The drivers will have to start a charging session by using the Walmart app. All they have to do is to scan a code on the charger, as indicated by Charged EVs.

Since, Walmart has over 5,200 stores in operation across the country, it is estimated that 90% of Americans live within 10 miles of a Walmart or Sam’s Club. Therefore, this broad reach means that the rollout can make speedy charging more accessible to people. In fact, it would be available to millions of drivers who might have been struggling to find a location to charger their vehicle.

It has been found that an average gas-fuelled vehicle releases over 5 ton of dangerous air-polluting every year. On the other hand, electric vehicles do not produce any tailpipe pollution. The plug-in EVs and the hybrid EVs produce much lesser tailpipe than gasoline vehicles.

The impact of Electric Vehicles (EVs)

There are many benefits when it comes to electric vehicles. It is not just faster, convenient, good for the environment, but it is also better for consumer’s wallets. The owners of EVs spend around 60% less every single year on fuel or even charging costs, compared to the owners of gasoline vehicles.

Therefore, the prices for this service at Walmart ad Sam’s Club will be much lower compared to other charging stations. Moloughney paid around 42 cents for each kilowatt-hour of electricity at one of the charging sites, however it was slightly less than other options in that same area.

In addition, Charged EVs stated that Walmart’s new charging stations will be powerful enough to add hundreds of miles of driving range in less than half an hour. The retailer giant’s charging stations will feature the two key types of fast-charging plugs in the United States. These are the CCS1, which is used by most non-Tesla electric cars, and the NACS, which is the slimmer plug design produced by Tesla. This is the type of plug that many carmakers are adopting. Other big companies are making similar investments to their stores. For example, Ikea has expanded EV charging access at its stores.
