Government Announces a Nationwide Recall at Costco and Sam’s Club – What Shoppers Must Do If They Bought This Product

Marshalls Just Confirmed the Permanent Closure of Two Major California Stores, Including Hollywood Blvd

Christmas is coming to Costco — 5 top-festive items in the “What’s New?” aisle

Known for its unique furniture styles and tasty Swedish meatballs housed at the in-house food court, IKEA is perhaps one of the most reputable furniture and homeware retailers in the world with 479 store locations spanning 62 countries.

The Swedish furniture maker has now announced plans to expand operations in the United States. Throughout the course of 2025, the furniture retailer will open eight new locations across the country — and the interesting bit? These new stores will be specially formatted.

IKEA offering an innovative way of shopping for furniture

According to the company website, after recording major gains from their U.S. operations, along with an increased market share of 13.6% over a five year period, the retailer has made the decision to expand its operations in the States.

The Cherry Hill, Pennsylvania, Hunt Valley, Maryland, Beaverton, Oregon, Scottsdale, and Arizona regions will all be able to enjoy a newly opened Ikea store in the coming months. Additionally, three more stores will be opened in California sometime during the spring/summer period, specifically in Thousand Oaks, Ontario, and Colma.

A pick-up point in Santa Monica will also begin operations soon, and more details on each opening will be released as the year progresses.

What is especially notable about these new stores is the new operating system that will be used at seven of the eight new locations. The furniture maker is introducing a “plan and order points with pick-up” system in order to increase convenience and ease when shopping.

These specialized stores will be smaller than the traditional larger-format Ikea branches known to shoppers. The aim behind a smaller store format is to offer shoppers a more tailored experience.

The idea is that shoppers will meet up with store team members and order their required pieces this way. The team members will aid customers to “order home furnishing solutions that require a bit more help – such as kitchen, bathroom and closet storage systems.” Once the orders are placed, shoppers will be able to pick their parcels up at the newly introduced designated pick-up points at their convenience.

Affordability and customer services remains a priority for this furniture maker

Despite a tough year economically for the retail industry at large, IKEA is still determined to prioritize customers and their needs with affordable pricing and customer service.

“Our strategy continues to prioritize our customer’s needs, and in FY24, we continued to make everyday living more accessible, especially during a time when we know economic challenges are leading to a decrease in disposable income for many Americans,” CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer Javier Quiñones shared. “As we gear up for the 40th anniversary of IKEA U.S. in 2025, we’re committed to reaching even more customers where they are.”

One of the ways in which the retailer is showing its commitment to affordability is through the reintroduction of New Lower Prices which has resulted in a “2.7% increase in the number of pieces purchased per basket.”

The furniture maker is also trying to broaden its spectrum of accessibility and as such, the company has launched Spanish language website — in addition to enhancing its e-commerce experience which has yielded a 5.6% increase in remote sales when compared to the previous year.

The Afterpay system of payment was also recently launched by the retailer. Afterpay allows customers to pay for the items that they have purchased in installments over time.

The company is giving back to communities and its own people as well. IKEA has shown great support to federal legislation that aims to expand recycling infrastructure nationwide. Additionally, 220 nonprofit organizations received over $1.5 million in retail value of financial donations.

The furniture designer also “expanded co-worker benefits around family and medical leave of absence (FMLA), financial support, 401(k), Medicare and more”.
