Kroger, a well-known grocery store in the United States, has confirmed massive recall affecting popular grocery items because of health and safety issues. You should check if you have any of the recalled products in your fridge and take the necessary action.
Many Products Recalled for Safety Reasons
Kroger has had to recall several products sold in stores across many states since the start of July. The recalls were serious because they put customer health and safety at risk.
For instance, the recall for Lewis Bakery Artisan Style Half Loaf Bread, which had hazelnuts in it but were not listed on the package. This is considered a health hazard for people with nut allergies and could cause serious reactions. This product was sold under multiple lot codes in West Virginia, Michigan, Arkansas, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Missouri, Mississippi, Indiana, Ohio, Alabama, Illinois, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Georgia.
Another product recalled by Kroger is Oscar Mayer Turkey bacon that was suspected to have a harmful germ called Listeria, which could make people sick, especially those who have weak immune systems or pregnant mothers. This product was pulled from shelves in Texas, Louisiana, and other 16 states.
High Noon vodka drinks were recalled because some cans were wrongly labeled. In stores, especially in South Carolina, Virginia, and Wisconsin, some packs contained cans filled with seltzer alcohol yet they were labeled as Celsius Energy Drink. Here are the lot codes of the affected High Noon packs:
- LCCC 17JL25 14:00 to L CCC 17JL25 23:59
- LCCC 18JL25 00:00 to L CCC 18JL25 03:00
The retail code of the Celsius case recalled is UPC 8 89392 00134 1, along with lot codes, L CCB 02JL25 2:55 to L CCB 02JL25 3:11.
Nabisco Ritz Sandwich Variety Packs were recalled because some had peanut butter inside, but the packages instead said that they had cheese, hence, considered a danger to people with peanut allergies. Stores affected are those in the Midwest, South, and Southeast.
Al Fresco Fully Cooked Chicken Sausage Sweet Apple was also recalled because it might have small pieces of plastic in it. Kroger has warned the customers who bought these items not to consume them and return them for a full refund.
Store Closure and Leadership Shake-Up
Besides product recalls, Kroger has also been undergoing significant internal changes as the company announced plans to close 60 stores over an 18-month period, following a slight drop in Q1 sales. The store closure will affect the number of communities across the country. This will be approximately 5% of its 1,239 store locations.
On top of the store closure, CEO Rodney McMullen, Kroger’s top leader, has resigned following an internal conduct probe. The company found out that his personal behavior went against Kroger’s rules for business ethics. His actions were a major change, even though they did not have to do with the company’s finances. Rodney McMullen has been replaced by Ronald Sargent, a member of the company board as a temporary CEO, as the company is looking for a new leader.
Conclusion
Kroger is facing multiple major challenges. The recalls show the importance of food safety and the need for careful checks. The store closure and the change in leadership point to a period of important adjustments for the company. These events are shaping Kroger’s future and are a reminder that even big companies must constantly deal with new problems and make tough choices to stay successful.
