Christmas is coming to Costco — 5 top-festive items in the “What’s New?” aisle

One of America’s Top Retailers, Costco, is making the news with the unique offerings it provides to its consumers. The retailer continues to keep the prices of its products as low as possible, while its rival has increased its prices over the past few years. This is to ensure that consumers still have a store to visit with affordable prices. This is how the retailer keeps its consumers satisfied, ensuring they return for more. But what about this new Mega Warehouse Club?

Costco’s reputation

The retail giant has always been known for its quality products at an affordable price. Costco had almost 137 million members in 2024, and there is a big reason behind this. The retailer is doing a great job of offering customers value at a time when life has gotten almost unbearably expensive.

While several retailers have been forced to raise their prices over the past few years, Costco has kept its prices affordable. Even now with the high tariff increase the retailer tried to keep its prices as low as possible to cater for its consumers. The company continuously manages to do so without having to risks the quality of its products and services.

In addition, it is Costco’s member-first attitude that has a long contribution to the company’s success and effectiveness. This specific attitude is reflected not just in the prices of the products, but also product selection and member benefits.

The new Mega Warehouse Club

The retail giant, Costco, currently operates in143 warehouse club stores across the state of California. It is important to note that there are much more Costco locations in California than there are in any other state. Also, many of these locations in California are known for their high volume of consumers. In addition, Costco’s Los Angeles-area stores are known to be the busiest store. However, there is a new grocery megastore that might be giving Costco a run for its money.

This new Mega Warehouse is located in a former office building, and it is called the Resco Food Service. It is a large grocery warehouse that is situated in the City of Industry close to the downtown Los Angeles that opened in 2024. Additionally, it often dubbed an “Asian Costco,” the store sells various different Asian grocery products, such as:

  • Rice
  • Noodles
  • Sauces
  • Snacks
  • Produce
  • Meats
  • Seafood
  • Frozen foods

This new megahouse is seen as a no-frills store and it already has a massive following because of its wide selection of products and affordable prices. It is a type of store that attracts not only everyday consumers, but also restaurant owners who need to stock up on low-cost ingredients, especially in bulk. Also, the store has the potential to steal many of Costco’s customers away.

Threat the company faces.

Resco’s presence and popularity in Southern California should be a concern for Costco for several reasons. Firstly, Resco has more than 5,000 items in its gigantic store. Costco, on the other hand, tends to limit its inventory to around 4,000 SKUs (stock keeping units) per store. Granted, there’s a reason for that. The retailer purposely tries to limit its inventory to ensure it does just negotiate great prices with its suppliers. However, the aim is to keep a close eye on quality control.

Still, everyday consumers know that shopping at Costco does not mean that all their needs will be met. Given Resco’s broad selection, some may be inclined to take their business elsewhere. Also, Resco offers an optional $20 annual membership deal that provides consumers with a discount and access to various special offers.

Costco, by comparison, charges $65 a year for the company’s Gold Star membership and $130 per year for its Executive membership. Also, at Costco, when you purchase a membership, it is not optional, instead, it is a requirement if you want to get in the door. Resco’s membership is not mandatory, instead, it is just a bonus perk for loyal consumers.
