Christmas is coming to Costco — 5 top-festive items in the “What’s New?” aisle

The month of love is almost upon us and with it comes a flurry of darling promotions to help make your sweethearts day better. Everyone’s go-to retailer, Target, has launched its Valentine’s Day campaign early this year to ensure everyone has ample time to put together a gift from the heart.

Can you really buy love?

Having just barely recovered from the festive Christmas season, customers need to get ready for round two as  the red-themed superstore has already deemed their holiday shop open for business. The retailer’s Valentine’s themed e-shop adds a touch of pink in an otherwise red online shopping experience. The tagline of the webpage reads, “From classic cards & candies to new sweet surprises, find thoughtful ways to show your love & make them feel the feels”, against the backdrop of a white picket fence with daisies and strawberries growing around it. It almost feels impossible to not want to explore what the next page has to offer.

From candy, to craft supplies, to a heart-themed outfit, “Tar-jay”, as customers lovingly refer to it, has any and every type of Valentine plan covered.

How much is too much?

The catalogue of pink and heart themed Valentine’s Day product is seemingly endless, some of which are paired with a nice deal or promotion. Everyone’s first on the list when shopping for this holiday is chocolate and now they can buy double the truffles their partner expects. A BOGO (buy one, get one) promotion is running on chocolates in conjunction with a 50% discount. This offer, however, is limited to “Circle” members exclusively. Other sales include buy 1, get one 50% off and other various discounts across departments.

Shopping decor during this time of year is a pink-lover’s paradise. Target has brought out a range of home decor with shades of pink and red that are not easily found year-round. Think heart shaped throw cushions, adorable pink candles and trinket trays, and a blanket covered in hearts to snuggle under.

You could even put together a full date-night outfit, from the dress, to the shoes, and, of course, the cutesy heart shaped accessories. The company has a dedicated capsule collection of clothing described to go, “From flirty date night ’fits to casual brunching clothes, find on-trend styles for every occasion,” that will have you ready for a romantic date or a fun evening out celebrating Galentine’s.

And if a night in is more your to your preference, you can peruse through the selection of baking and activity kits available for an evening of guaranteed fun without having to wrack your brain for ideas.

Is Target merely pushing products under the guise of a romantic sale?

The celebration of love in every form is always welcomed, however, there is no denying that this holiday has become highly commercialized. Customers tend to get carried away in the glamor of it all and more often than not end up overconsuming in an attempt to capitalize on sale prices and promotions. The Valentine’s e-shop also has a section with ideas on how to spend the day with loved ones, and whilst there are genuine suggestions, each one is paired with links to products you should buy. Granted, this is a business at the end of the day and selling products is its one job, but it is necessary for customers to also bear this in mind so that they do not end up overspending unnecessarily.
