Cinnamon Bun Dessert Dip from ALDI been you favourite? Well it might be time to relook at your fridge. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced that Superior Foods Company is voluntarily recalling 19,368 units of the dessert after it was found to be contaminated with small fragments of plastic.

This product is made by Park Street Deli and is sold far and wide across ALDO grocery stores. It has been a favourite for many shoppers. However, as a result of food safety concerns, shoppers are requested not to eat and check their snack cupboards as soon as possible.

Details of the Recall

This recall was issued by the FDA earlier this month and remains active as of 8th August 2025. The use and consumption of this product could cause health problems even though the severity of injury is considered remote. For that reason, it is regarded to be a Class II recall.

The affected product can be identified by the following details:

  • Product Name: Park Street Deli Cinnamon Bun Dessert Dip
  • UPC Code: 4061462440151
  • Lot Number: 16225

What a Class II Recall Means

According to the FDA, a Class II recall exists when there is a risk that the contaminated product might be a cause for health concerns, but these concerns are not considered to be life-threatening. This recall is less impactful that a Class I recall, action is still required to protect consumers.

Plastic contamination is known to be a choking hazard and if a person swallows it, it could potentially lead to internal injuries if swallowed.

Why Plastic in Food Is Dangerous

As with any other foreign material found in food, the presence of plastic in food is also a risk of health related complications. Even the small pieces could potentially cause harm, especially for children or older people.

Potential risks include:

  • Choking
  • Internal Damage
  • Digestive Issues

Steps for Consumers

If you have purchased the affected dessert dip, you should:

  1. Do not eat the product.
  2. Dispose of the product safely
  3. Check your receipts or your grocery cupboards
  4. Contact a medical practitioner immediately if you or someone in your household has already eaten the product.

You can also contact the FDA directly for additional information at 1-888-INFO-FDA (1-888-463-6332).

How the Recall Process Works

Since this is a voluntary recall, it is initiated by company who manufactured the product. The FDA and Superior Foods Company collaborated to determine which batch was impacted and help notify customers. This strategy works well because it facilitates the quickest possible removal of the impacted product from shelves.

The FDA keeps in check with the company to ensure that proper actions have been taken to ensure that the contaminated product is no longer available for purchase. The FDA also makes sure that the company takes steps to avoid any future occurrences.

The Bigger Picture on Plastic Contamination

Sometimes contamination can occur during the production process but this leads to a greater concern about food safety. According to recent studies, there has been much concern about small plastics being found in food products. Data shows that the long term effects is yet to studied, but it still something to be concerned about.

Officials who work in food safety stress the importance of ensuring proper quality control procedures during production processes. Should any incident of contamination be noted, the public must be informed immediately.

Final Word for Shoppers

The Cinnamon Bun Dessert Dip recall acts as a reminder for us as consumers, to be mindful of recall notices especially on food items that are considered to be favourites. Safety comes first!
