Walmart, one of America’s retail powerhouses, is currently exploring more changes. The retailer has been part of several changes over the past few months, and consumers can expect more changes to occur. The retailer announced that it is currently in the process of implementing a 3-hour delivery for 95% of its American consumers by the end of 2025.
America’s Retailer Powerhouse
Walmart is a well-respected retailer, not just because of the position it has in the retail industry, but because of the continuous value it aims to add. It is not just a one-stop shop where consumers can purchase anything they want, from food and clothes to toys. However, it is also the largest Fortune 500 company in the United States. As a result, when Walmart has something to say, people will listen to what it has to say.
Now, with all the recent changes that have been announced, the retailer has made another big announcement. According to the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Walmart, Dough McMillon, consumers can expect changes in how they will receive their items. These changes are set out to occur by the end of this year, 2025.
New Delivery Implementation
The CEO indicated that the retailer plans to implement changes when it comes to the delivery of the company. The plan Walmart wants to implement is to provide delivery services to 95% of American consumers within three hours, by the end of 2025. McMillon made this announce earlier this year in his annual letter to the company shareholders, which was together with the retailer’s annual report.
In addition, the annual letter stated that due to the retailer’s continuous investments in technology throughout its supply chain, makes it possible for the retailer to implement this change. As stated by the CEO, when referring to the retailer as omnichannel, the main aim is to serve the consumers in how they want to be served.
Thus, this new delivery option will be a more convenient way to serve consumers and members along with the affordable prices and benefits at Walmart. With this comes the growing of the eCommerce of the retailer which will be a driving force for the company. According to the retailer’s annual report, the eCommerce sale hit a total of 4121 billion, with 8.3 billion units that were delivered the same day or the following day.
Walmart being future focused
The implementation of this three hours delivery services, comes with Walmart’s focus on becoming more technologically driven. As the world becomes more and more tech-driven, it is essential for the retailer to be adaptable and open to implement these solutions. This is allowing the retailer to remain relevant in the retail industry, but also to expand its competitive advantage against rivals.
As stated by the CEO McMillon, Walmart is now more technologically powered than what they’ve ever been before. He claimed that the retailer is creating and deploying today’s technologies in several forms. The annual letter also indicated that the retailer does not just focus on the several forms of technology, but also automated storages and retrieval systems in the retail giant’s distribution and fulfilment centres.
In addition, the investments the retailer is making when it comes to its eCommerce orders, are part of the company’s greater efforts to “serve people how they want to be served.” Yet again, it is proof of Walmart catering for the needs and wants of the consumer. The retailer is also creating different options for consumers on having a choice in how to get their items. These delivery choices include options such as eCommerce orders, curbside pickup or the traditional mode of going to a brick-and-mortar store.
