Christmas is coming to Costco — 5 top-festive items in the “What’s New?” aisle

Hearing of a recall notice can bring with it a sense of anxiety as you fear for the potential impact it could have on you, particular in the case of consumable items and its possible health implications. However, consumers can take some comfort in knowing that there are regulations in place to monitor and inspect products even after production is complete, thereby ensuring that potential risks will be reported.

Prevention is, of course, better than cure and as such, it would be wise to peruse the recall page of the stores you had recently visited so as to ensure you do not accidently have a recalled item hiding in your pantry or cupboards waiting to be consumed or used.

Urgent recall issued by Walmart

Even America’s largest retailer can sometimes make mistakes, although technically, in the case of recalls, the fault lies mainly with the manufacturer rather than the distributor. Regardless, Walmart has a dedicated page on its website wherein shoppers can keep track of any items sold by the retailer that have been issued with recall notices.

Due to how widespread and established Walmart is in the United States, it appears that 90% of the American population lives within a ten mile radius of a Walmart store. As such, the retailer serves customers in the millions with its wide variety of inventory both in-store and online. Since the retailer can have such a widespread impact, when a product sold by them is recalled, the repercussions can also be just as widespread.

Recall notices are issued for varying reasons, with some being more sever than others. Issues such as incorrect labelling, safety concerns, contaminations, defective packaging, or manufacturing mishaps are all possible reasons for a recall and it can impact just about any type of product, be it food, medication, or other non-consumables.

Some recent recalls of products sold by Walmart include the Igloo water cooler which is alleged to cause amputations of fingertips and Segway scooters that have a fall risk.

Amongst this latest batch of recalls is also one that could pose a serious risk to drivers. Two types of Bridgestone tires have been recalled due due its potential to cause a car crash.

“Walmart and Sam’s Club are committed to the health and safety of our customers and members and to providing products that are safe and compliant, all supported by our health and wellness, product safety, and food safety professionals,” the retailer shared in a statement. “In the event of a product recall, we work swiftly to block the item from being sold and remove it from our stores and clubs.”

Bridgestone tire recall

The famous tire manufacturer, Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations (BATO) has issued a recall notice for its R123 Ecopia tires in size 295/75R22.5 after it was discovered that the tires were produced with an incorrect belt orientation. Due to this error in its manufacturing, the tires now have a high potential of failing which could ultimately cause the vehicle to crash.

According to the recall notice, the tires had been produced for use on commercial trailers and “an estimated 1,185 tires may have been affected by the error.”

The notice also states that any consumer in possession of the defective tires can contact Bridgestone Americas directly and BATO will replace the tires at no additional cost to the consumer.

Other recent recalls at Walmart

Some other recall notices to keep an eye out for if you shop at Walmart include:

  • Nestle USA has recalled selected Lean Cuisine and Stouffer’s frozen meals due to a potential contamination of a wood-like substance.
  • Aiper Seagull Pro Cordless Robotic Pool Vacuum Cleaners has been recalled for burn and fire hazards. The pool cleaner had been distributed by Shenzhen Aiper Intelligent Co.
  • Segway has recalled its Segway Ninebot Max G30P and Max G30LP KickScooters due to a fall hazard that could lead to the risk of serious injury.
