Xpeng, a Chinese electric motor manufacturing firm, recalled large quantities of 47,490 Chinese electric sedans, the P7+, in a grave recall due to a severe malfunction with steering. It is among the few attempts of the Chinese EV manufacturers to announce the recall that should be initiated in September, and concerns recalling those vehicles manufactured between August 2024 and April 2025.

The failure of the Steering Assist is fatal

The recall covers both the P7+ tam pullbacks by date of manufacture up to August 20, 2024, and April 27, 2025, exports as alleged in a purchase notification on the state administration of market regulation site in China. The problem is improper contact in the power steering motor sensor wiring harness, and it may have dangerous safety effects.

The part of the vehicles based on the scopes of the recalls, according to the regulatory announcement, may only have the steering sensor signals periodically due to faulty contacts in the steering motor sensor wiring harness. The malfunction may lead to the appearance of the steering warning lamp, and the failure of the steering assist may create a safety risk that poses a risk to the driver.

The damaged harness of the wiring may result in an unstable steering sensor signal, and this might potentially lead to the absence of power-assisted steering by the driver employing the wiring harness. This is compromising, especially when it involves making maneuvers in the car park and when the driving speed is low, as well as during an emergency situation, where control of the steering wheel is essential.

New Replacement program recruited

Another step that Xpeng has taken in order to resolve the dilemma is through the outsourced replacement program. The company will immediately be recalling the entire steering mechanism and replacing it with better ones without charge to the owners of the compromised cars, which will do away with any form of safety risk altogether.

P7+ is a major figure in sales

The negative impact of the recall is by no means limited to the safety issues; it has also impacted Sony Xpeng’s sales immensely in the second half of 2012. It would later be made by P7+ on November 7, 2024, and it has been investing a significant portion of the company’s products at fair prices, and it has just started at RMB 186800 (USD 26230).

As should be seen, between January and August 2025, the P7+ will realize its shipments of 55, 039 and the background of such deliveries will be the percentage of delivery of 20.26 percent made by Xpeng in bio. The cumulative shipping up to the month-end of August was 72,546 units, comprising 4,847 units in the month of August. The problem is improper contact in the power steering motor sensor wiring harness, and it may have dangerous safety effects.

Futuristic deliberations of industry

Such a recall further evidences the imminent doom of the Chinese EV manufacturers during the expansion stage, the magnitude of output, and the quality of production. It is attested that the developing trends in the attitude and functioning of the Chinese auto industry deregulated safety and regulation discourse through the active recall of the tendencies. However, Xpeng continues to expand the listing of the P7+ due to the recalls. According to recent reports, the company is planning to develop a 5C recharge 400km-range extended-range variant of P7+, which would go on sale in 2026.

The P7+ sedans recall created by Xpeng is a significant development in Chinese vehicles that operate with EVs, as it not only demonstrates the difficulties of the small-scale development but also reveals the industry’s higher attention to safety standards. However, a replacement programme addressing free steering assembly would be in a position to reclaim the monetary trust of this popular electric sedan.
