Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenzkyy wants to negotiate with President Trump if the Ukraine and Russia ceasefire holds. Zelenskyy has even suggested nominating President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize if he successfully helps negotiate an enduring peace deal. Zelenskyy also proposed a peace deal to provide Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles.
High stakes and the extent to which diplomacy can be altered during war
Zelenskyy spoke at a press briefing in Kyiv, highlighting the need for the world to end the war with Russia that has lasted for nearly 4 years.
“The plan for ending the war won’t be easy, but it is certainly the way forward. And if Trump gives the world-above-above all, the Ukrainian people the chance for such a ceasefire, then yes, he should be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. We will nominate him on behalf of Ukraine.”
These comments from Zelenskyy come at the same time as Trump is trying to present himself as a global peacemaker.
The U.S. president has claimed he has ended multiple international conflicts and has expressed a strong desire to obtain a Nobel Peace Prize for himself. Recently, his administration placed a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, and, while past negotiations failed, he has promised to end the Russia-Ukraine war.
How is Trump bringing peace to the world?
Trump has has agreed to provide Tomahawk missiles, which are long-range weapon systems. The Ukraine president values power and pressure and said that Tomahawk missiles would provide ‘serious negotiations’ from Moscow.
The U.S. has previously declined to provide these missiles due to concerns regarding escalation. However, whole Zelenskyy said that Trump did not decline the offer, he did say that it would be considered.
“What I did hear was that work will continue at the technical level, and this possibility will be considered.”
The U.S. has not provided Tomahawk missiles and has given Zelenskyy other long-range weapon systems.
Concerns regarding the use of the Trump deal
Zelenskyy’s choice to use Trump was military and diplomatically tactical. It would be the first time the U.S. gives long-range weapon systems to Ukraine. The use of Trump expands the need to be diplomatic while influencing the U.S toward stronger sanctions on Putin. Peace sits on the other side of Trump, receiving a Nobel Prize.
Concerns regarding the use of the Trump deal with sanctions and the flow or arms to Kyiv. However, other Ukrainian officials are convinced Trump would politically side with Ukraine, which would boost his political image.
Zelenskyy’s political party, Servant of the People, has nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. In the nomination letter, Merzeshko explained Trump’s previous efforts to provide military aid to Ukraine with Javelin missiles, and Trump’s work towards peace negotiations in the middle east.
Merzesho hoped peace would align with the world order, and the order or Ukraine’s border would be recognized, he also stated that Trump could help achieve just, comprehensive, and sustainable peace based based on the UN charter.
Merzeshko assumed the most difficult enigma might be solved
With regards to world peace, Russia assumed world peace on it’s terms, including world dominance and ownership over Ukraine. Merzeshko has made it clear to the world – Ukrainians will not give their land to the occupier. Ukraine will continue to strengthen its border with armed peace in positive world recognition.
Yes, Ukraine peace talks booster diplomacy, and hoped for U.S. support, reinforces the need for friends. It is still uncertain whether Trump will do anything regarding a Nobel nomination.
The world is watching, and partnership between Trump and Zelenskyy could change the course of the war and the impact of ambition of world diplomacy.
