Google will take the stage in New York City on Wednesday, August 12, to unveil the Pixel 11 series, a four-phone lineup built around the Tensor G6. Industry reports say it will be the first smartphone chip manufactured on TSMC’s 2nm process to reach consumers. Pre-orders are expected to open on August 12 via the Google Store, with a countdown timer set to end several hours before the 3 p.m. PT keynote. If there is a similar gap to last year, devices should reach shelves around August 20.
A landmark chip at the center of the launch
The Tensor G6 is reported to use TSMC’s 2nm process, which should address many of the performance and efficiency complaints surrounding previous Tensor processors. Specific figures have not been confirmed by Google.
Gate-All-Around transistors wrap the gate material around all four sides of each silicon channel, allowing for tighter control of current at scales that older planar designs could not manage.
That is the same structural shift seen when IBM crossed a transistor density barrier researchers had long considered a hard physical limit.
That puts Google in an unusual position: the Pixel 11 is on track to ship as the first series of smartphones to reach consumers with a 2nm process chip. Apple’s September release gives Google roughly a month of exclusivity. Apple’s A20 chips, expected in the iPhone 18 series, are also reported to use TSMC’s 2nm process, as are next-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon and MediaTek Dimensity flagships.
Taiwan’s Economic Daily News reported that TSMC’s 2nm process is being used for Tensor G6, making the Pixel 11 the first series of smartphones to hit the market with this new process. All devices in the range are expected to run the Tensor G6 alongside Google’s Titan M3 security chip, with Google reportedly moving to a MediaTek modem for the first time.
Four models, higher prices, more storage
Google is officially teasing “the next generation of Pixel,” and the company is expected to unveil the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold.
Reported US starting prices are $899, $1,099, $1,299, and $1,899 respectively, though those figures come from leaked retail data, not a confirmed Google price sheet.
The Pixel 11 starts at $899 for 256GB, which is now the starting storage, with 128GB models appearing to be gone for 2026. The US price represents an increase from the Pixel 10’s $799 starting point. The Pixel 11 Pro starts at $1,099 for 256GB. The Pixel 11 Pro XL starts at $1,299. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold reaches $1,899.
There is an accompanying rumor suggesting that Google will do away with the 128GB variant of its phones completely, so users will have access to 256GB by default. The move mirrors a broader industry push toward higher base storage floors as on-device AI workloads grow larger.
The same pressure is driving chip architects toward denser nodes, a trend also visible in laptop silicon now shipping with 30 percent more transistors packed into the same footprint.
Pixel Glow and display improvements
This year’s leak cycle has been unusually detailed, covering everything from the Tensor G6’s manufacturing process to a new ambient lighting feature nicknamed Pixel Glow.
The feature, referenced in leaks and possibly also called HiLight, is described as a multi-colored rear light for discrete notifications and Gemini interactions, expected on Pro models only.
The Pixel 11 display is reported to hit 3,000 nits of peak brightness. These figures have not been confirmed by Google.
Leaked specifications describe a 1+4+2 layout using Arm C1 cores, a PowerVR C-Series GPU, a new Titan M3 coprocessor, and a MediaTek M90 modem.
Event timing and what comes next
Made by Google 2026 is officially taking place on Wednesday, August 12, a week earlier than last year, with Google once again opting for New York City. The keynote is set for 6 p.m. ET.
Pre-orders are expected to open on August 12. Last year, Google announced the Pixel 10 series on August 20, 2025, and commenced sales on August 28; if there is a similar gap for the Pixel 11 series, devices should hit shelves around August 20, 2026. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold may see a later on-sale date, as the Pixel 10 Pro Fold hit shelves on October 9.
Google is also expected to show off the Pixel Watch 5 lineup and new wearables at the August 12 event. A Pixel Tag has also been reported as a possible addition, though neither has been formally confirmed in official communications.
The Tensor G6’s debut will be closely watched by the Android ecosystem: supply chain reports claim TSMC has begun mass production of its 2nm process for Google’s Tensor G6, putting the Pixel 11 on track to ship with 2nm silicon before Apple’s A20-powered iPhone 18 lineup arrives in September. Qualcomm Snapdragon and MediaTek Dimensity flagships will also adopt TSMC’s 2nm process, with devices expected late this year and into early 2027.
