Ford Pro launched a certified pre-owned program for commercial trucks and vans nationwide on Oct. 5, offering businesses factory-backed used Class 1 through Class 7 vehicles through its dealer network.

The program, called Ford Pro Advantage, is described by the automaker as an industry-first offering. It launched nationwide Oct. 5 and covers Class 1-7 commercial vehicles, including trucks, vans, chassis cabs and cutaways. Vehicles are available through Ford’s network of more than 700 Ford Pro Commercial Vehicle Centers.

What the program covers

Ford said the program is intended to expand access to lower-cost commercial vehicles, particularly for small businesses.

Built to support small businesses and fleet managers, this initiative provides rigorously inspected, factory-backed pre-owned work vehicles alongside flexible financing, dedicated warranties, 24/7 commercial roadside assistance, and remote mobile service access.

The program splits into two certification tiers. The program includes two certification levels: Ford Pro Gold Certified and Ford Pro Blue Certified. Gold Certified applies to Ford commercial vehicles ranging from Transit vans through F-750 trucks , with vehicles undergoing a 172-point inspection.

Gold Certified vehicles include a seven-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, and Ford said the program also provides a five-year/80,000-mile vehicle warranty. The Blue Certified tier covers Ford or non-Ford commercial vehicles that are under 9 years old, with fewer than 150,000 miles, and pass a 139-point inspection, with a 90-day comprehensive warranty.

Both certification levels include 24/7 commercial roadside assistance and a money-back guarantee.

On the financial side, Ford Pro offers commercial customers access to business financing, flexible lease structures, and bundled invoicing through its commercial financing arm, Ford Pro FinSimple.

Why Ford is targeting used fleet buyers

Ford Pro president Alicia Boler Davis tied the launch directly to affordability pressure hitting small businesses and tradespeople.

“We’ve heard from customers, as well as our dealers, that they think there’s a need for a commercial certified pre-owned program,” Alicia Boler Davis, president of Ford Pro, told Automotive News. “We know with the affordability squeeze right now with increased fuel prices, every dollar matters to these customers. We think making more trucks and vans accessible to these customers just makes sense.”

Ford is being selective about sourcing, steering clear of near-new inventory that could compete with new vehicle sales. The company’s sourcing strategy focuses particularly on high-demand commercial vehicles that are approximately two to three years old with 30,000 to 70,000 miles.

“There’s a lot more resilience on the commercial side of the business because these customers need these vehicles to do work,” Boler Davis added. “We’re intentionally sourcing from a sweet spot, looking at 2- or 3-year-old units, and not going after units that are 1 year old.”

Service network and market context

Ford Pro Advantage customers get access to the brand’s mobile maintenance fleet alongside its fixed service locations. Those who use it will also have access to more than 4,300 Ford Mobile Service vans for routine maintenance and light repairs, along with more than 700 Commercial Vehicle Centers and nearly 100 Pro Elite Service Centers.

Ford is launching the program at a time when small businesses and tradespeople are facing a real affordability squeeze from rising costs associated to fuel, inflation and other economic conditions.

That backdrop has shaped recent moves from GM heading into earnings and other automakers adjusting their commercial lineups, including electric work vans shipping with fleet tracking.

Ford’s broader certified pre-owned push has already shown momentum on the consumer side. Ford Motor’s Blue Advantage program was the No. 1 certified pre-owned brand in the third quarter, ahead of Toyota, after sales jumped 44%, according to Ford’s third-quarter sales release , a trend the automaker is now extending to the commercial fleet market with Ford Pro Advantage.
