The 2025 buzz in motivation of the Indian primary market has seen 121 issues hit Dalal Street to date, thought 39 and SME issues are trading below its price band, with the SME IPO owning the brunt with 30 issues being in the red compared to 9 mainboard issues that are yet to hit a pre-eminently trading price band, as August saw inundation of 40 IPOs in both SMEs and mainboards public offerings and drive unprecedented market activity.

The segment of SME has massive post-listing challenges

The Indian prime market is also swirling in 2025, and 121 IPOs have hit the Dalal market so far, according to Economic Times. Among these, 39 of the stocks are trading at lower levels, with some falling to up to 58 percent. Their impact has been felt on SME IPOs, with 30 of the issues remaining in the red listing, and also 9 mainboard listings quoting below their price band.

SME stock Arunaya Organics has dropped the most by 58% below the issue price of Rs 58, and ATC Energies System, Delta Autocorp, Ken Enterprises, and Ganga Bath Fittings fell by 47% each. Other shares that have fallen more than 10 percentage points since issue works are Rexpro Enterprises, Accretion Pharmaceuticals, Kaytex Fabrics, Renol Polychem, and Mahendra Realtors and Infrastructure, falling in a range of 44-11.

There are varied reasons that result in poor performance

Stock prices of Jyoti Global Plast, Samay Project Services, Chamunda Electrical, Active Infrastructures, Rama Telecom, Medistep Healthcare, Readymix Construction Machinery, Bhadora Industries, Divine Hira Jeweller, Pushpa Jeweller, TSC India, Aaradhya Disposal Industries, and Rapid Fleet Management services are down between 9-1 percent of the issue price post the listing.

There are mixed performance patterns recorded in the mainboard listings

Even within the mainboard category, Arisinfra Solutions has emerged as a significant laggard as the technology-oriented B2B procurement platform supported by PharmEasy co-founder Siddharth Shah trades at less than 33 percent of the issue price. Other key mainboard IPOs include Laxmi Dental and Laxmi India Finance, where 20 and 16 percent declines are in the devil digit.

Down to 7 categories, including Indiqube Spaces, Kalpataru, Brigade Hotel Ventures, Schloss Bangalore, Indogulf Cropsciences, and Borana Weaves. In the last year, there have been an issuance of 224 IPOs, with 131 IPOs trading in the market at a premium to their issue price and 93 IPO trading at a discount to the issue price.

August proves to be a month of record activity

There is a high volume of 40 IPOs mixed with SMEs and mainboards during August, and it is one of the most active months of primary market activity in recent history. This soaring is an indication of a fine appetite of investors and firm belief of the companies about the conditions in the market, despite varied post-listing results.

Experts do not give up hope even in hard times

Despite the woes being experienced in the second quarter market, analysts feel the optimistic mood will persist in the future. Although Foreign Institutional Investors have been offloading the Indian equities in the secondary markets, they have been keen on new companies via the use of IPO and QIP avenues.

Samir Arora, founder and fund manager at Helios Capital Management, refers to FII selling marginal rebalancing to foreign investors looking to acquire Indian company shares through the IPO routes. The Joint Managing Director of Arihant Capital Market, Arpit Jain, has predicted that the trend would not end in the next few months, especially in the mid-cap segment.

The IPO market in India has shown great strength with 40 offerings in August alone, but the variance in performance between the SME and mainboard segments reveals that selection and discipline in valuation are paramount, yet high pipeline prospects and specialist optimism point to further upward marches of the market despite the existing post-listing issues of smaller firms.
