AT&T, the worlds third largest telecommunications provider appears to have earned this high ranked spot for a reason. In addition to its wide offering of data plans and cell phones, this network provider is now offering a game changing service to its users. This new innovative service is perhaps a result of increasing competition from other network providers like Visible and Mint Mobile who are offering great rates for higher-end plans with some even providing prioritized data.

Previously known as the American Telephone and Telegraph company, AT&T is now offering its customers a new, effortless way to split their monthly phone bills for those on joint plans.

AT&T introduces a new SplitPay service to clients

For solo customers. opting for a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) is possibly the safest, most cost-efficient option. However, for those with a preference for one of the top three network providers, such as Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile, you may need to get your family members to go in on a plan with you. Whilst these kinds of group contract deals tend to offer more value for money, paying your monthly fee can quickly become a hassle as one person will usually make the payment and the remaining family members would pay them back. AT&T is coming to your rescue with its newly launched SplitPay system wherein each member in your family or group plan will be able to pay off their portion of the bill individually without any unnecessary hassle or confusion.

How does its work?

The company is describing the SplitPay system as “a revolutionary way to manage your cell phone bills that will change the game,” but is it really as great as it sounds?

As the name would suggest, SplitPay is for users with multi-line plans and the process is so simple, you almost wonder why it was not introduced sooner. Users with multi-line plans can activate SplitPay on their account. Once it is activated, the user can then assign a separate payment-maker for each subsequent member on their plan. The company will then send each individual member of the plan a monthly text message notifying them of the amount owed, along with a link through which they can each pay their portion of the bill. The launch of this service will eliminate the inconvenience faced by the primary account holder wherein they have to gather the funds for the bill after individually informing each member of the plan of what they owe.

There is even an autopay option that can be set up for each member in the plan.

Is there a catch?

Whilst this “industry-first innovation” does bring about new levels of convenience to an industry notorious for its customer service struggles, the primary account holder will still be on the hook for any outstanding fees if the other group members are unable to make their portion of payment for whatever reason. If the final payment date passes with outstanding fees, the company will notify the primary member of this so that they can either sort it out with the other member personally, or be forced to make the payment themselves.

Additionally, even though the company has allowed for an autopay option whereby the money for your monthly bill is taken fro your account automatically each month by means of debit order, there is a slight catch. Account holders who pay their monthly bills with a credit card will not be able to use the autopay option of the SplitPay system. The account holder can still use SplitPay, however, they will need to opt for one of the alternate payment options available.

Aside from these little caveats, any split-line postpaid plan is eligible for SplitPay.
