Over the past few weeks, several recalls have been issued, and the government has now issued an urgent warning to the public. This warning states that consumers should check their fridge because the recalls include 6 million eggs. Since eggs are a product majority of people use daily, this has spread to a nationwide warning. The millions of eggs have been recalled because of a Salmonella urgent warning that has been issued, which could lead to fatal incidents.

The story behind the government’s warning

The government, more specifically the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), is warning consumers not to eat the recalled eggs, which are tied to the Salmonella risk. Also, it is important to note that the FDA recently upgraded the recall to class I. This is the category which indicates the highest risk level where it is indicating potential risk for death.

The government through U.S. Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers not to eat, sell, or even serve certain types of Black Sheep Egg Company eggs. The reason for this is because these are the products that has been voluntarily recalled last month due to a possible salmonella contamination.

In addition, the nationwide, voluntary recall, was first initiated late in the month of September. According to FDA enforcement reports, this recall affects more than 6 million eggs which are linked to the Arkansas-based producer. The Black Sheep Egg Company distributed the recalled eggs to other companies in various states between July 9, 2025, and September 17, 2025, and the companies “may have repackaged them.”

The affected products and locations

On October 16, one of those companies, Kenz Henz of Santa Fe, Texas, issued a voluntary recall of its 12-count packages of Grade AA Large Pasture Raised Eggs. These are the eggs that has been received from Black Sheep Egg Company, and it is citing the possibility of the salmonella contamination.

In addition, the Black Sheep Egg Company recall impacts 12-count and 18-count cartons of Black Sheep Egg Company-branded Free Range Large Grade A Brown Eggs. These affected eggs have “best by” dates of August 22, 2025, through to October. 31, 2025. As stated by the government’s issue, the products have UPC codes 860010568507 and 860010568538. Consumers can find these “Best by” dates can be found on the side of the carton.

According to the government, the recalled Kenz Henz brand eggs were sold in retail stores across Houston, Texas. The items were packaged in 12-count cartons were marked with the UPC code 86949400030, a “Julian date of 241 (August 30) to 244 (September 2) and 246 (September 4) to 247 (September 5),” and “best by” dates between October 11-14, 2025, and October 16-17, 2025, printed on the side of the carton.

The consequences of Salmonella infection

Salmonella are bacteria that could cause about 1.35 million infections in the United States each year. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, this bacterium is found in contaminated food which is often the source of most of these illnesses. As stated by the agency states, people who consume the affected products can become infected with salmonella after swallowing the bacteria, or after touching animals, animal feces, and “places animals live and roam.”

For these reasons the government is urging consumers that to eat these products. According to the CDC, those individuals who become infected with salmonella can experience a range of symptoms which includes the following:

  • Abdominal pain,
  • Fever,
  • Headache,
  • Watery diarrhea that may also have blood or mucus,
  • Loss of appetite,
  • Nausea, and
  • Vomiting.

Some people, in particular children who are under the age of 5, adults who are 65 years and older, or those with weakened immune systems may experience more severe illnesses that require medical treatment or hospitalization. The CDC states that, some of the symptoms usually begin six hours to six days after consumers may have swallowed the bacteria, and most people recover without treatment after four to seven days.
