Christmas is coming to Costco — 5 top-festive items in the “What’s New?” aisle

One of America’s most popular retailers, Costco, announced another big change the chain is making. These past few months many of America’s top retailers made changes and we all understand that is to remain on top and to cater to the consumers’ interests and needs. Costco is referred to as the Taylor Swift of the retailers. because of the lack of information and communication put out to the world.  However, it remains a fan favourite, and this strategy might just encourage people to come to the store if they want to know more about something.

Costco: Food courts change

The retailer made a few changes recently, but all these changes are made in the best interest of the consumers. There are some aspects that the retailer cannot change and will go against what the consumers want because this might be a better way for that specific item to be sold and to attract other consumers.

For several years the Costco’s famous $4.99 rotisserie chicken was sold in a plastic clamshell. Many of the chain’s competitors like Amazon’s (AMZN) Whole Foods, still sell their cooked rotisserie chickens this way. However, Costco decision to change thing and made the decision to sell its chicken in a bag.

Additionally, this specific change was implemented due to certain financial aspects, with the aim to help enable Costco. The retailer literally bought a chicken farm to assist it with keeping its pricing down – in order to protect the $4.99 price point.

Moreover, the retailer also committed to expanding its fresh, ready-to-eat, and easy-to-prepare food in a way many of the chain’s loyal members would not expect. It has been stated that Costco’s new sushi program is expanding in Canada and the United States. This product is freshly made on a daily in the chain’s warehouses and it uses high-quality fish and real crab. Also, the chain has introduced gourmet take-and-bake pizzas in their delis – this is offering the retailer’s members a new and exciting options for meals.

Changes at the gas stations

Also, this fan favourite retailer made changes at its gas stations. The main aim of these changes was to ensure that it can serve more members as their fuel needs evolve. It was stated that the fuel team continues to expand EV charging.  The team offers DC fast chargers for members to experience high-quality, and all equipment is Costco-owned. It was also stated that ninety warehouses will be equipped with charging stations by year’s end.

The responses of consumers

Many consumers had a lot to say about the change occurring in Costco stores. One of the consumers made a comment of Reddit that they do not support the chicken being in a bang. They stated that by placing the chicken in a bag, the experience consumers used to get, is now being destroyed. The bag makes the chicken a greasy mess that tends to be all over the place. This was the comment of one consumer, but this sentiment was shared by many others.

In addition, another consumer stated what most people shared – that the chain is doing a good job in keeping the chicken bags clean. However, the tends to always be grease on the outside of the bag. The consumer added in the comment on Reddit, that in order for them to keep their car clean when purchasing this product, they have to put it in an orange bag for beef and seafood.

This consumer further alluded to the fact that this whole process of having a chicken in a bag is more cumbersome. Also, the consumer shared their view on the effort it takes to put the chicken in the bag and that it might be more work for the staff to do this. The containers the retailer had before, did not have so much work to add because it was assembled in line – compared to each chicken now has to get special attention to be placed in a bag.
