Implementing technology into the daily processes of your company is something of a double-sided sword. With the extra added efficiency comes the costlier risk of a data breach. Depending on the nature of your work, this could prove to be quite dangerous or lead to massive losses. Tech and money do not seem to go hand in hand as yet another company has to payout a $21 million settlement.

Who is this class action lawsuit against?

Keep an eye out on your mailbox because in it could be a letter that will allow you to claim big bucks from a $21 million settlement that is being paid out after a data breach. Americans who are eligible for this settlement could receive a payout of up to $6,000.

The payout will come from insurance company, Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. who are being accused of failing to prevent a data breach. Top Class Actions has shared that the cyber attack would have compromised the personal information of both clients and employees. The data breach could have impacted customers between June 3, 2020 and September 26, 2020. The personal information that could have been compromised included sensitive data like Social Security numbers, financial information, medical data, and driver’s license numbers.

According to The Sun, the insurance company which provides risk management services to people across the world – has not admitted any wrongdoing in this case. Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. has however set aside a huge $21 million cash post to resolve these claims. This brokerage firm can be found headquartered in Rolling Meadows, Illinois.

$21 million data breach settlement — are you eligible?

Victims eligible for a payout will have received a letter either from Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. or from Gallagher Bassett Services Inc.

Clients and employees who received a letter will have been told that their information could have become compromised as a result of the data breach. The only good news for the victims is that members of the class action lawsuit can claim up to $6,000 for documented losses from this breach.

Losses could include fraud, identity theft, financial losses, and fees. However, in order for money to be paid back for potential losses, proof of these losses must be presented. Receipts and bank statements may be submitted as evidence.

If you are a member of the class action lawsuit who did not experience financial losses, you may claim three years of financial account monitoring services. A pro rata settlement payment will also be given to people.

Members who have received a letter from the insurance company must act quickly in submitting their claims or else they could potentially miss out on a $6,000 pay day. A valid claim form must be submitted latest by February 10 if any payment is to be processed.

Valid claim forms can be submitted through the settlement website set up by Arthur J. Gallagher & Co.

February 27 has been selected to schedule an approval hearing for this case.

Just to reiterate, the two key dates eligible class action members need to be aware of is February 10 for claim form submissions and February 27 for the subsequent approval hearing case.

Cyber crimes on the rise?

Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. are not the only company who will have to payout a hefty settlement in the coming days. Popular banking app, Cash App, is also under fire for weakened security measures that resulted in unauthorized transactions. The company had allegedly mislead its clients with confusing terms and conditions of application use as well. Cash App’s parent company, Block, is liable to pay $175 million in damages to users of the app. Though they have agreed to make the payout, the company maintains its innocence in the matter.
