Caffeine fiends should look twice before pouring creamer into their morning coffee today as the FDA has issued an urgent recall notice for International Delight coffee creamer due to spoilage and possible health risks as a result of consuming the product.
Urgent FDA recall notice issued for International Delight coffee creamer
Last Wednesday, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) sent out an urgent recall notice for International Delight coffee creamer amidst concerns of spoilage. The recall notice was later issued with a Class II risk categorization which is the second highest level of risk according to FDA guidelines.
International Delight coffee creamer is manufactured by Danone. On February 21, Danone sent out the initial recall notice for two flavors of the International Delight coffee creamer after the batch of coffee creamers had been discovered to be spoiled. The recall included a little over 75,000 bottles of coffee creamers that had been sold at stores in thirty-one states. The product was immediately pulled from shelves once the recall notice was issued.
This week, the FDA elevated the recall status to a Class II risk level. When a product categorized as a Class II risk is consumed, the individual may face “temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.” Alternatively, if the recalled coffee creamer have been consumed, the “possibility of serious health consequences is remote.”
The company is urging customers to exercise caution and refrain from consuming the recalled creamers as the best by dates have not yet passed.
Details of the recalled coffee creamers
A Class II recall notice has been issued by the FDA for two flavors of the International Delight Coffee Creamer. The flavors in question are Hazelnut and Cinnabon Classic Cinnamon Roll. A total of 75,054 bottles of the coffee creamer have been recalled due to spoilage. The recalled bottles of coffee creamer were distributed in 12,509 cases which contained six bottles each and went out to thirty-one states across the country.
The best by date, UPC code, and Lot code can all be used to identify if the product has been recalled.
The affected products have the following dates and codes:
- International Delight Hazelnut Coffee Creamer 32 oz. – Best by date: July 2, 2025 – UPC code: 04127102568 – Lot code: 51-4114 S
- International Delight Cinnabon Classic Cinnamon Roll Coffee Creamer 32 oz. – Best by date: July 3, 2025 – UPC code: 04127101993 – Lot code: 51-4114 S
According to Danone, the recalled batch had spoiled prematurely which resulted in a change in texture in the creamer. The recall sent out by Danone only mentioned the issue of quality and the company explained that the recall was done “out of an abundance of caution,” however the FDA report revealed additional issues. According to the FDA’s findings, Danone had “received complaints of spoilage and illness with the use of the products.”
Furthermore, it appears that this is not the first case of its kind faced by Danone. Last October, the company sent out another recall notice for 10,00 bottles of its International Delight’s “Home Alone” Peppermint Mocha Zero Sugar coffee creamer when a labeling issue was discovered. The product was marked to be “zero sugar,” however the coffee creamer did indeed contain sugar and as such, consumption of the product could pose severe risks to those who have to manage their sugar intake.
