Mark Wahlberg’s burger chain confirms that many burgers store closures can be expected. Are you a regular Wahlburger consumer? If yes – this news might just be for you. 79 Wahlburger locations are being closed as the Hy-Vee supermarket chain is being closed down – due to replacement by Market Grille. This is sad news for loyal Wahlburger consumers and great news for Market Grille customers. Where do you stand with this shocking news?

Mark Wahlberg Burger Stores

Wahlburger is a dining restaurant offering its delicious burgers – was started by Paul Wahlberg and his brothers Mark and Donnie. Wahlburger will now only have stores located in 40 places nationally, which is an extreme decrease. The Wahlburger chain has previously stated its unhappiness with the sale being made at Hy-Vee supermarkets. The CEO stated that the Wahlburger chain is set out for growth and development and that it’s not going to be in the food business – everyone should stick to their skills set.

Customers’ reactions to this separation

  • Hy-Vee customers approve this decision
  • Some of the customers indication that they hope this is the last time Hy-Vee makes alliances with celebrities. This was not the first celebrity alliance Hy-Vee formed and just as the others, this one did not work out.
  • Apparently Wahlburgers’ products were good, but overpriced
  • Customers complained that the service was poor, and the waiting time is extremely tedious

After receiving feedback from customers, it was recommended to Hy-Vee to separate from Wahlburgers. The new menus are implemented to serve and cater for the customers and to ensure customer satisfaction. These new menus focus on families, individuals and breakfast, at a low and affordable price. In order to keep its customers happy, Hy-Vee had to make this decision.

What’s next for burgers stores?

In 2020, Hy-vee replaced various of the Market Grille stores with Wahlburger, and now it is occurring again – this time the complete opposite. Hy-Vee is returning to only offering Market Grille and not Wahlburger as in the past few years. The supermarket is transitioning the all-in-store setup of Wahlburger to the Market Grille concept, once again. The question now remains, is this the final change for the supermarket?

A new breakfast menu is set out to start on 04 February 2025 for all Hy-Vee restaurants. During the month of February, the supermarket has set out to introduce a new lunch and a dinner menu. These new menus will include several traditional fan favourites, but the most popular one would be the introduction of the all-time favourite Market Grille burgers. What will it offer:

  • More to offer for customers looking for a quick bite
  • Services will include – takeaways, dine-in, and delivery services
  • Counter services – where orders can be made, and staff will serve customers their orders at a table
  • This transition will occur at the various Hy-Vee supermarkets during this week
  • Hy-Vee will now have a total of 221 Market Grille and Market Grille Express locations

With all these changes in mind – where do you stand? Are you one of the customers who supports this decision? The question remains how will the future look for the Wahlburgers’ burger chain, since it will only operate in 40 locations. Another aspect to consider is, will Hy-Vee regain the trust of consumers by returning to the fan favourite Market Grille? Or will consumers feel this is only a way to make them soft until Hy-Vee finds its next celebrity alliance.
