One of America’s retail chains, Sam’s Club, has recently announced a change in its stores. Both consumers and employees are encouraged to take note of this change, especially since it will be occurring nationally. The employees of the retailer do not seem to welcome this change and believe that the company wants them to be unhappy. Since this new change is aiming to adjust the operational hours of the company, it should have been expected that employees would not necessarily agree with it.
Details behind the change
The retail chain confirmed that it will adjust its operational hours to meet consumer demand. This specific change was first exposed by the company’s employees in various social media posts on Reddit. On a previous occasion, Sam’s Club told The U.S. Sun that the stores have reduced hours on certain days. The retailer did not immediately respond to The U.S. Sun’s inquiry about whether there will be any holiday hour changes. The special days where hours may be reduced include:
- Christmas Eve,
- New Year’s Eve,
- Memorial Day,
- Fourth of July and
- Labor Day.
One of Sam’s Club Customer Service Reps stated in an email to The U.S. Sun that the new hours will be implemented in stores on October 12, 2025. The reason for these changes is because the bulk retailer is aiming to better meet the demand of store members, especially on Sundays. It has been state that the stores will now be open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on a daily. However, it is also important to note that the store hours generally vary throughout states. Also, previously some stores were open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Sam’s Club’s new operational hours
The consumers of Sam’s Club who has the Plus membership, which is $110 annually, are given early access to stores throughout the week. Previously, only Plus members could start shopping at 8:00 a.m., but now all members can shop during these hours from Monday to Friday.
Although the retailer is implementing new hours on Sundays, it still allows Plus members an hour of early access. In addition, those consumers with Plus Membership can start shopping at 8:00 a.m. on Sundays. Whereas all other members will be allowed to shop in stores from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
These new hours provide consumers with an extra two hours to browse through the store aisles, since Sam’s Club used to close at 6:00 p.m. on Sundays. The fuel station hours have also been adjusted to fit into the store’s operational hours. As indicated by the company’s website, the standard fuel center hours on Sunday were 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Consumers will be allowed to fill their vehicle tanks from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Below is some of the important times to keep in mind with the new time changes for Sam’s Club:
Daily Hours:
- 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. (Every Day)
Sunday Hours:
- Plus Member Shopping: 8 a.m. – 9 a.m.
- Club Shopping (All Members): 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.
- Fuel Station: 6 a.m. – 10 p.m.
- Curbside Pickup: 7 a.m. – 8 p.m.
- Café: 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
The opinion of the public
Many of the consumers and employees of Sam’s Club are users of Reddit and shared their frustrations on this social media platform. People are unhappy about the time changes at the retailer. One Reddit user stated that the company will rather make these extended hours changes, but it will not recruit anyone to work specifically during those extended hours. This means that more pressure will be placed on the employees who are currently employed at the company.
Another Reddit user shared this sentiment and emphasised their unhappiness. They added that they might be leaving the retailer due to these changes. Similarly, one individual stated, “It’s like they want us to be miserable.” One of this social media platform users stated that these changes are implemented due to the company caving into its consumers.
Another Reddit user argued that it is unfortunate that the corporate finally caved to all the member complaints about Sam’s Club being open at 10 on a Sunday. This user further continues by stating, “And let’s not forget the only holiday closing early is Christmas Eve. I guess we should be filled with gratitude that they allowed that holiday!”
