Government Announces a Nationwide Recall at Costco and Sam’s Club – What Shoppers Must Do If They Bought This Product

Marshalls Just Confirmed the Permanent Closure of Two Major California Stores, Including Hollywood Blvd

Christmas is coming to Costco — 5 top-festive items in the “What’s New?” aisle

One of America’s retail chains, Sam’s Club, owned by Walmart, is ready to make big moves. Sam’s Club is highly focused on increasing the company’s membership. It also stated that the model used to measure the success of the company is based on the growth of the members. This membership change that is currently occurring at Sam’s Club is close to that of Costco. This is something that customers will notice.

Sam’s Club and Costco’s loyal consumers

One may post a question to consumers, asking them what they would consider a world wonder. Many would provide you with various answers like the biggest mountain, or the biggest ocean. But many others would say that Costco and Sam’s Club warehouses are world wonders. This indicates the loyalty of consumers and how they are excited to visit these stores.

Some individuals schedule their entire weekends around paying a visit to their local warehouse grocer. This includes procuring supplies, meal prepping, and sometimes even posting online about what they found. In addition, it is therefore no surprise that the Sam’s Club subreddit boasts over 48,000 members, whereas Costco has just shy of one million.

Sam’s Club implemented a massive change

Sometimes some change needs to take place, and these members-only grocers make big changes that can cause ripples throughout the retailer’s membership base. A current example would be that of Sam’s Club. The retailer will now be encouraging members to stop using their physical cards. Instead, they will be encouraged to rather move toward using the retailer’s app.

This means that when customers enter the warehouse, they will have to scan their app to prove membership. This will occur rather than just flashing their plastic cards as they usually did. Additionally, consumers are also encouraged to use the app for their store payments. On the other hand, Costco also made similar efforts to move members away from its cards, although the retailer still offers physical cards alongside the retailer’s mobile app.

Reponses of members

The move from the physical plastic cards to mobile apps, has truly streamlined the payment process. According to Sam’s Club, the payments using the mobile app seems to be more secure. However, there has been many who are not fans of this new change.

One of the Reddit users wrote about this change and stipulated that the elderly’s membership should rather be cancelled. The reason for this is because they could not get their hands on a card nor a smartphone. It would therefore make it difficult for the elderly grandparents to remain members of these retailers.

Another person on Reddit commented that they tried getting a physical card at two different stores over the past year and was told the stores no longer has cards. They further added that “I don’t know how to set up an account for the secondary person and was always so worried I’d get in trouble for using my mom’s account because I have no idea how that works with digital cards. Didn’t renew.”

The person further alluded to the fact that they got their parents a membership as a gift. After this, the stores refused to prove them with physical cards. The parents had to set it up on their phones which is an exhausting process. More than half of the time the commentor’s parents do not carry their cell phone which make it worthless for setting up the process on their phones.

However, on the website of Sam’s Club, it is written that consumers are more than welcome to get themselves a physical card if they need one. A request can just be provided to the Member Service Desk, whenever you visit the Club at a next occasion.
