Christmas is coming to Costco — 5 top-festive items in the “What’s New?” aisle

There is important news for coffee lovers. An urgent alert has been issued for a coffee recall, and it affects a popular nationwide brand that may be contaminated with glass. Because of the potential risk, consumers should exercise extreme caution when purchasing this product and are urged to check their pantries immediately. The recalled item involves a selected portion of Clover Valley Instant Coffee that has been identified for removal from shelves.

Recalled coffee products

This recall will especially impact people who favor the Clover brand. The action was initiated by Dollar General Corporation and pertains to a limited selection of products that were sold across the country. Concerns were raised that certain units may contain fragments of glass, a hazard that could seriously injure consumers who drink the product.

It is also important to note that the affected coffee was sold and distributed exclusively in Dollar General stores, which is why the recall was announced by the company itself. According to the company’s notice, the products at issue were available in stores between July 9 and July 21. That information appeared in an announcement shared via the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Important details of this recall

If a consumer were to ingest glass fragments present in the coffee, the consequences could be severe. Injuries might include damaged teeth, cuts to the mouth and throat, and even intestinal perforation. Because of these risks, consumers are instructed to stop using the product immediately and to dispose of it safely rather than attempting to consume it.

The recall covers three lots of Dollar General’s 8-ounce Clover Valley Instant Coffee bearing UPC 876941004069. Shoppers should carefully review product labels; the lot numbers and best-by dates are as follows:

L-5163 — Best by 12/13/2026

L-5164 — Best by 12/13/2026

L-5165 — Best by 12/14/2026

As stated by the FDA, the recalled coffee was sold and distributed in every state except Alaska and Hawaii. The recall began after a consumer lodged a complaint with Dollar General about a possible issue. At this time, no illnesses or injuries have been reported in connection with the instant coffee, according to the recall notice.

Dollar General has said it is actively investigating the source of the potential glass contamination. The company also encourages customers who purchased an affected product to contact Dollar General for a full refund, and to have the product information available so the return can be processed efficiently.

The public’s opinion

In its announcement, Dollar General Corporation explained that an internal review is underway and apologized to the public for any inconvenience the situation may have caused. Medical guidance is clear that ingesting metals or any foreign objects can be dangerous; items like glass can cause lacerations and internal injuries and may require medical attention.

If a person swallows any foreign object, they are advised to consult a healthcare professional for safety and evaluation. As the company continues its investigation, the FDA will conduct a hazard assessment before assigning an official risk classification to the recall. That process ensures the appropriate details are obtained and documented so that the correct next steps can be taken. Under FDA procedures, a recall of this type may ultimately be categorized as Class I, Class II, or Class III, depending on the level of health risk identified.
