When you think of Ferrari, you think of cars with serious engine power and a very sleek design. But now, Ferrari is whispering a different kind of power into our ears. The Italian landmark will soon unveil its first-ever electric sports car, code-named “Luce,” meaning “light” in Italian; this will mark an exciting new chapter in the future of high performance with Ferrari.

The birth of Luce: More than just a name

Earlier this month, Ferrari teased the world by releasing photos showing the interior design and name of Luce, its new vehicle; however, they have yet to provide an official image of the exterior, which will be published in May. This is a very bold move because Luce will not only be the first fully electric vehicle produced by Ferrari to date, but also the first fully electric vehicle they’ve ever produced.

Switching from Ferrari’s iconic noisy engines to electric engines may take some getting used to, but the name “Luce” could represent that change. It indicates an evolution of where Ferrari will go with regard to their overall design, which will include innovation along with performance in a different way than before.

A closer look at what lies within Luce’s thoughtful design interior

Although the outer shell of Luce continues to remain concealed, the interior of Luce has begun generating quite a bit of excitement. Unlike many other contemporary electric vehicles that use huge touch screens throughout their design, designers have opted to use actual physical buttons, dials, and tactile controls, which produce an enjoyable experience for the user during use; thus creating a human-like experience with Luce, as Maserati unveils its 2026 supercar model.

The result is an apparent sense of relationship between the driver and the machine as opposed to simply a user tapping away at the LCD screen.

For instance, the steering wheel has the traditional Ferrari form; however, it’s composed of lightweight alloy and divided into clearly defined and user-friendly control pods. To most automotive enthusiasts, physical controls offer a level of control and an emotion that screens cannot provide.

A team of visionaries shaping the design from concept to creation

An added element of intrigue to the Ferrari’s new vehicle is that it chose LoveFrom to assist in the design of this interior. LoveFrom is a design studio co-founded by Sir Jony Ive, the designer responsible for creating some of the most well-known technology products to date, as Volvo unveils its all-electric EX60 ultramodern SUV.

To create a product that is more than just a digital surface, Ive and his design team combined old-world materials such as leather and aluminum with intelligent use of modern technology like OLED displays.

What we still don’t know and why it matters

Although the inside of Luce is very insightful about who Luce is, much about Luce is still unknown due to the lack of information, as Ferrari is keeping the exterior design shrouded in secrecy. This secrecy creates uncertainty regarding what the exterior design will be compared to previous Ferraris, as well as how well this electric vehicle will operate while being driven on the road.

While the entire details remain unclear, early indications appear to show that the Luce will not only be quiet as an electric vehicle; however, the Luce is also expected to deliver exceptional performance and deliver an unmistakable Ferrari feel under its skin.

Ferrari’s commitment to maintaining its soul is illustrated by the way Luce integrates innovative products with their core values of high performance, love of driving, and advancement all in one. As Ferrari enters the electric vehicle era, Luce demonstrates that combining tradition and technological advancement can propel them into the future, just as the sixth-generation Toyota RAV4 with an electrified powertrain.
