One of America’s retail chains, Sam’s Club, implemented a new policy which are leaving the company’s consumers excited and thrilled. However, the retailer’s employees do not share that same sentiment as the consumers. The employees of the club are furious and unhappy about this change, because it means that they will have to work longer hours.

Details behind the new policy

The new Sam’s Club Sunday store hours started this past Sunday, the 12 October 2025. There are several things that members should keep in mind when it comes to this new policy. Sam’s Club members can now have their morning coffee a little earlier, since the retail chain’s new Sunday hours went into effect on October 12.

The club, which is a membership-based retailer, is a subsidiary of Walmart. Sam’s Club made an announcement that the company would be expanding its hours for consumers on Sundays. The reason for this change is due to “overwhelming feedback” from its members. This was confirmed by Steven Zapata, who is the director of corporate communications at Sam’s Club, as he told this to USA TODAY via an email on October 9, 2025.

The new operating hours of Sam’s Club

As stated by Zapata, these new hours will be changing from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays to 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day, although there may be a few exceptions. Sam’s Club’s Plus members, which is the highest-tier membership level, will still enjoy the perk of being able to shop earlier. They will now have early access to warehouses from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. daily.

Below are Sam’s Club’s new Sunday hours which will be implemented in most of its locations:

  • Curbside pickup: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Plus Member shopping: 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.
  • Club shopping: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Cafe: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Fuel: 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Although these hours are good for the consumers and they are excited about it, the employees do not share in their excitement. The fact that the operation hours will be earlier on a Sunday morning, means that employees will be expected to arrive earlier, even if they worked the previous day. For this reason, they employees feel that this new policy does not consider the impact that it will have on the club’s employees.

Some of the employees was so furious about this change that they even shared their unhappiness on social media. They posted some comments on Reddit which is a platform where retailers are discussed by the public. There are a few of the comments that even stated that some of the employees found out about this change on social media and not in an in-person meeting with the leadership of the retailer.

Holiday hours changing

When it comes to special days the operation times for many stores variates from the general time slot. Zapata also indicated that Sam’s Club is adjusting its holiday hours. Before, warehouses tend to close at 6 p.m. local time on Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day and New Year’s Eve.

However, these stores will now remain open until 8 p.m. local time on those holidays. Clubs will close at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve and it will remain closed on Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. If consumers want to find a Sam’s Club location near them, they are welcome to use the company’s store locator.

This is one of the ways the retailer is trying to get more people to join the club and to attract more consumers. It also serves as encouragement to the consumers to join the plus membership because of all the benefits that comes with this membership tier. One of these benefits is the early access on a Sunday morning when the store is still quiet.
