A massive recall was issued that impacts Home Depot’s Pressure Washers. This recall was issued because of possible exploding capacitors that occur when using the Pressure Washer. The retailer is known to be one of America’s top home furniture providers. However, consumers are encouraged to check if their appliance is affected.

Details of the massive recall

It has been stated that about 780,000 pressure washers that were sold at retailers such as Home Depot are being recalled. This recall affects several stores across the United States and Canada. The reason this recall is happening is due to a projectile hazard that has resulted in fractures and other injuries among some of the consumers.

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission published a recall notice last Thursday. This notice stated that TTI Outdoor Power Equipment is recalling specific models of its Ryobi-branded electric pressure washers. The reason for this is because there is a possibility that the products’ capacitor can overheat and burst. This will lead to the “causing parts to be forcefully ejected.”

In addition, this poses a severe impact risks to those who are using the product or even just bystanders. Currently, the CPSC indicated that the power and tool equipment company has received several reports of injuries. To be specific, 135 reports of capacitors overheating in the Unites States have been reported. This includes 41 reports of explosions that led to 32 injuries and/or fractures to Home Depot consumers’ fingers, hands, face and eyes.

Also, a corresponding notice has been received from Health Canada indicated that no additional incidents were reported in Canada. Home Depot consumers are encouraged to not use these products to prevent any harm from coming to them. This is truly a dangerous situation, and severe damage can be done to the users of this product.

Home Depot’s affected products

Consumers of Home Deport who are in possession of the now-recalled pressure washers are deeply encouraged to stop using these products immediately. Consumers are also welcome to visit the Ryobi’s recall website to learn more about how to receive a free repair kit. This kit will also include a replacement capacitor.

Additionally, the affected Ryobi washers under the recall have the model numbers of RY142300 and RY142711VNM. It has also been noted that about 764,000 of these items were sold in the United States and in addition to the 16,000 that were sold in Canada.

Information of the recalled products

When it comes to the Unites States these items were sold at several retailers such as Home Depot and Direct Tools Factory Outlet. The date of when it was sold at these stores are between July 2017 and June 2024. This has been confirmed by the CPSC who also notes that the products were sold for about $300 to $400 in stores and online.

In addition, TTI Outdoor Power Equipment can be seen as a subsidary of Techtronic Industries (TTI). Hence, the Associated Press reached out to the company to see if it had any further comments on Thursday. Other than the pressure washer recall that occurred on Thursday, TTI also recalled Ryobi-branded mowers and hedge trimmers earlier this year. The reason for this specific recall was because of possible fire and laceration hazards, respectively.

Home Depot’s consumers are urged to not use these items if they do have it at home. It is essential that consumers check the dates, numbers, and the stores at which they purchased their various items. As mentioned, many injuries have been reported, and it is important for the CPSC to keep the consumers safe. Therefore, they are encouraged to stay away from these products and contact the store where they purchased it.
